Have You Met Anyone Famous?
I was going thru a friends "Celebrity Skin" photo album and can't believe how many famous people his job has allowed him (and me) to meet.
Have you ever met anyone famous and were they NICE?
I've always wanted to meet Rick Springfield and have many times since 2004 and he's just amazingly sweet and gives the best hugs. My second favorite person I've ever met is Alex Lifeson of Rush. He has a great smile and is super nice.
Now if I could just meet Stevie Nicks...

Tom Cruise, back in his Top Gun days. The nicest guy EVER. I tagged along after him like a leech and he actually took the time to introduce me to people, even though I was a nobody. No other celebrity would have done that.
Also met Dr. Seuss, he was a doll. Pee-Wee Herman was as odd as you would think he might be.

Melanie Griffith was in my hometown to film the movie "Milk Money", and she and Don Johnson both came into the doctors office I was working at, at the time.
Nick & Drew Lachey grew up here in Cincinnati. They both worked at Kings Island singing, and I met them when my sister worked with them.
Gavin Rossdale, former lead singer of Bush, and married to Gwen Stephani, came to my chair at a concert and stood in it while playing a song. I touched his jeans and about died. If thats what you call "meeting". LOL

I've gone to a couple of Star Trek conventions. William Shatner- total dick to his fans. Someone asked him a Star Trek question (god forbid, at a star trek convention!) and he was all rude about how the show's been over for 40 years and then spent half an hour discussing his ear problems.
The guys who played Gowron and Martok were totally awesome. The kid next to me had saved up all his birthday and christmas money to take his mom and they signed his shirt and took pictures with him and were totally sweet.

John Buck - before he was famous- he played with my nephew on the Houston Astros.
Jim Youngs - played the "bad boy" in Footloose - he was a roommate of my boy friend.
Branscome Richards - played Dwayne Johnson's brother in the Scorpion King as well as in Renegade with Lorenzo Lamas (whom my sister has met through Branscome).
John Buck and his wife were WONDERFUL - still are - I got food poisoning during the game and his wife took care of my son while Bob rushed me to the ER...
Jim Youngs - was a sweetie and a hottie!!
Branscome was a true gentleman, VERY kind....my "other sister" (she is my sister's best friend, whom I've known since I was 4 years old...41 years) has known Branscome for YEARS - I believe they met in Hawaii MANY years ago...I might have met him there too but I don't remember him from there..
And last but not least - Johnny Depp!!! he was at the Jungle Lounge (bar) where we had my bachelorette party when I married Ian - oooh my word!!! I should've ran away with him!!! He danced with me!! YAHOO!!!

I worked in radio for years, so I have met quite a few. Aretha Franklin was very nice. Billy Currington was a jerk. Most country artists are very nice (met SO many of them), while pop artists usually had sticks up their rear ends. I know some NFL players that are great, and Ben Rothlesberger (sp.) used to be a nice guy. Fame changed him I guess.

Tom Hulce who is teeny tiny and Rosanne Cash who is as sweet as her daddy. The cast of Real Housewives of Atlanta were in my old studio one day earlier this year and seemed quite huffy that I didn't know who they were or care! I got to be Kool and the Gang's room attendant when the opened The Tabernacle here. I love them and they were very nice and well, cool!

I don't think it's name dropping, it's fun to meet people you admire and it makes for great stories. :)
I've met Les Claypool several times. He's very funny and sweet.
I've met the entire band Galactic and hung out with them quite a bit. They are very down to earth and always take time to meet their fans.
I met Phil Lesh and Bob Weir after a concert at the Oakland Coliseum. A very nice lady gave me her backstage pass because I had never met them and she had. Both were amazing and gave off really good vibes just like their music.
I LOVE music memorabilia and have quite the collection. It's been great to add things to it and really makes it more special for me to have personal belongings, autographs and photos of the musicians that have inspired me and influenced my life so heavily.

Met Rene Aubergenois at a StarTrek convention, in an elevator on the way to sign autographs) - he was very nice, and remembered me when it was my turn to get his autograph. I was a COMPLETE British SciFi/fantasy nerd, and I got to meet a bunch of Dr. Who and Robin of Sherwood cast members at a convention in 1991 - one of the best weekends of my young adult life - all of them very nice - and I got to visit some of them in England months later and they were happy to visit with me. Quite a few. Mostly, they're just people. AKA on good behavior until you get to know them. Some of the nicest people, you'll catch on a bad day, some of the ickiest people are the biggest charmers ever.
The hardest thing, for me, with someone I know OF, is separating that public persona, or their reputation/parts they play, from who they really are in their everyday lives.
Really, though, I don't particularly care to meet anyone famous. Fame takes up an inordinate amount of one's time. Leaves very little for other people / makes it difficult to be friends on more than just an acquaintance/ enjoy their company level. I have enough of those in my life. But I dig friends.

On the other hand, my husband was very ill as a child and was asked to make a commercial with Michael Landon to support a certain foundation. Unfortunately, he said that Mr. Landon couldn't stay sober enough to actually make the commercial and was a total jacka$$.

Remember Jake from Melrose Place? Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell? Carlton Banks from Fresh Prince of Belaire? I saw them at a club in Cleveland when I was younger and was too chicken to say anything to them. They, too, were surrounded by hot chicks!
Great question!

I hung out backstage with the band Sum 41 on accident, they were hilarious! I also played Phase 10 on an airplane with Elizabeth Smart's little sister (the poor girl who was in the bedroom with her when her sister was abducted) and the rest of her family joined in. This was while Elizabeth was still missing and they were flying from utah to NYC to film "America's Most Wanted". They were very nice people and stuck together in such a horrible situation.

I used to work at a busy restaurant in St. Paul, MN and I met a few famous athletes while working there...Kristi Yamaguchi (VERY SWEET and signed autographs for the bus boys) and also Pete Rose (MALE DIVA who wanted us to kick out an entire room full of people so he could dine alone....we made him wait :)
I grew up in the same neighborhood as Joe Mauer (catcher for the MN Twins) and he was my first crush (unreciprocated). He is a great guy, as are his brothers.
My grandma lived next to Gary Gaetti (MN Twins' 3rd baseman in the 80s and early 90s). He hid his kids' Christmas presents at my grandma's house, so he came to pick them up on Christmas Eve--such a nice guy, but admits that he wasn't always a good one!
I met Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia when I was in college and he came to my campus.
Met former MN Gov & Senator Norm Coleman at my friends' older brother's funeral (he was military.)
Kevin Garnett and Tim Hardaway came to my high school to film a commercial, and I got to be an extra...I got a wave from KG when I had to use the restroom and saw him in the hallway.

I met Guy Fieri at a book signing. He let me hug him and I screamed in his ear on accident. (I was so excited to meet him! I love him!) He was cool and cracked jokes the whole time he was signing autographs.
I met Scotty Pippen years ago- my dad's company did some plumbing for him and my dad was the head of the crew that did the work. He was super nice and signed some stuff for me.
My brother's 1st band used to do shows with Patrick Stump's (FallOut Boy) first band. He was the drummer. They hung out with all the same people and were pretty good friends. They used to jam a lot in my Mom's garage. My Mom was just talking about how Patrick sat in my Mom's kitchen trying to convince my brother to leave his band and join the project Patrick was starting (which became FallOut Boy) but my little brother wouldn't leave his band (which was fairly large on the Midwest music scene). The first award FallOut Boy won- when they accepted the award- Patrick was wearing a 504 Plan button (my brother's band). Patrick is sweet as pie. Kinda shy at first and then funny. Pete Wentz is pompous though. He was kind of a jerk to my brother- always trying to show him up.
I would love to meet Stevie Nicks too! She just seems like so cool and serene. I would also love to meet Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. They are such funny, strong, independent women.

Fun question: my hubby and I met Gabrielle Anwar on a plane from LA to London. We did NOT know who she was at the time, even when we asked her what a Brit was doing in LA. She replied she was an actress but didn't elaborate nor did she state her name. We actually spent quite some time chatting with her; we had admired how attentive she was to her baby, so we went over to introduce ourselves and tell her. She seemed like a lovely person. We got to talking about how we were returning to our home in England after a family reunion in California and she was going to England for a family reunion flying from her home in LA! How funny is that!

At that same animal hospital I met Chris Sarandon, The Talking Heads, and a couple of other people I can't remember off the top of my head. My husband was always laughing because I would come home all the time telling him who was there that day. Also, when I was living in that area I ran into Tracy Morgan in a club in NYC (VERY nice guy) and Britney Spears that same night... I saw Heidi Klum, Lance Bass, and Jeremy Piven at that same club... I think there was an event going on we stumbled into... oh yeah! best of all I met John C. Reilly in a dinky Michigan airport... super nice... I freaked out on him. Poor guy. He nodded to all of us and said ''Hi''....There were so many of us...he didnt sign autographs, but just acknowledging us was COOL.
We were down downtown visiting with some Family, when they were filing Sleepless In Seattle. So, we got to watch some of that.
Being a Port City we actually have a ton of movies that get filmed in our city.
Our Local Radio Station here does these acoustic sessions...Its a small venue that they only give so many tickets out too. My best friend won tickets to go see FUEL record a session. So, we got autographs, signed CDs, Idea tag and I think he signed my Cigarette case.
When I was in junior high I was in love with Scott Wolfe. I loved him in Part of Five...So, for English we had to write someone Famous....I chose him. Like eight months after I wrote him I got a package with a signed Autographed photo and a Generic note.. I still Thought it was pretty awesome.
