Have You Ever Used Bag Balm on Your Baby's Butt?
my DD hasn't had a diaper rash yet, and i want to keep it that way! I am obsessive about changing her diaper... every time I change her I aim a fan at her diaper area to dry her up, then if I even think she is looking a little red I use a little ointment. It does get a little expensive though, and my dad suggested that I use bag balm on her. I use the stuff for just about everything, and it is awesome... but I never thought about using it for a baby. Has anyone tried this? how did it work out? I don't want to use it on her until I know if someone else has without any freaky side effects. ( I wouldn't think there would be, but with babies it never hurts to check!)

I find it good stuff. If your little one gets a rash one thing that is so helpful is a little malox tummy stuff. Dab it on with a cottom ball, let it dry and then put a little vaseline over it as a barrier. I always did this with my little one when she had diarhea so that she wouldn't get a rash. The malox was was suggestion from my pediatrician is so fabulous for removing the burning itch which results from the acidic properties of urine and feces.

That is ALL I use! It is awesome! Gets rid of diaper rash overnight sometimes, really bad ones within a couple days. The $5 tub from Walmart lasts forever.

Dry bottoms are the key! Don't put on anything until the bottom is dry or you will trap the moisture next to the skin. I was a big fan of A&D ointment and it really wasn't too expensive. The zinc stuff can sting when they get a rash, and the wipes have chemicals (however mild) that can also sting or irritate when the bottom is sore. So, use a wet cloth to blot (not rub) and dry well (I used a blowdryer set to cool) to help when a rash attacks.

I have never tried this balm, but one thing I did do and it worked great was to add a small amount of household bleach to the bath water about 1-2 table spoons we already have chlorine in our water and this is just a little more, it kills the bacteria that causes the rash and will not hurt her, it would be the same if you put her in a swimming pool, same effect.

bag balm works great I'm sure, personally I would not use it because it is petroleum. I avoid petroleum products and opt for products made with other oils like olive oil, coconut oil etc.. Actually you could just use some olive oil right from the bottle, this is what I use for the base when I make slaves. It's a personal decision..you may want to google what petroleum actually is and you may change your mind about using it....

If you can find it, Boudreaux's (Bood-roe's) Butt Paste works wonders on red bottoms! I found it found at Wal-Mart. Oprah had it on her show like 10 years ago. I used it on both of my children and it cleared up the most severe diaper rash with two diaper changes. It is a great product with a funny name.

I do and I recommend it to everyone! It's fantastic for diaper rash and clears them up quickly, no side effects. So much better than anything else on the market!
