Has Your Child Ever Had a Fever like This?

My son is having the strangest illness, and I'm debating taking him into the doctor today. It started Saturday. He woke up in the middle of the night and vomitted. We had been at the Ranger game that day, so I thought it might have been all the junk food he ate at the game since he was fine on Sunday morning. Then, Monday morning, he woke up, is completely exhausted with a stomach ache and a headache and a fever of 103.5. I gave him motrin and once that kicked in, he was wanting to play. He seemed completely fine by the evening, back to his normal self. Well, Tuesday morning, he wake up and again has a fever of 101.5 with a headache and a stomach ache, but no other symptoms. I gave him motrin again and he was completely fine. Running and playing like his normal self again. So, this morning, he wakes up again and has the same thing - stomach ache, headache, and fever of 101.3 this time. He has no other symptoms other than a slight cough and all seem to go away with motrin. Has anyone experienced anything like this? If so, what do I do? Should I take him to the doctor today? I have a feeling by the time we get in this afternoon, he'll be fine again and they'll think I'm crazy. Any advice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you! We have an appointment this afternoon!

A few months ago my daughter had something like that. My pediatrician told me that it was a flu and a cold at the same time. Usually the flu comes first, but in some instances it can happen at the same time. Every thing you describe was the same as my daughter except she really did not throw up. As soon as I gave her medicine she felt fine. She did miss school for 3 days and on the 4th day she was fine.

My daughter had the same thing when she started kindergarten. Her lasted for a few weeks on and off. She would be totally wiped, but once the tylenol would kick in she was fine. I did take her in and the doc said it was a virus that she was having a hard time fighting or different viruses that she was getting. I kept her home and as still as I could keep her and it eventually went away. I would suggest taking him in. With my daughter the virus gave her a heart murmur that went a way when everything else did, but it was good to monitor that---not to scare you. I don't think there is anything to give to make it go away sooner, just time.

This is exactly how virus' spread. A child should not be around another child for at least 24hours once the fever breaks. You giving him the motrin has masked the fact that he is sick. I would take him to the doc asap!

I would definitely take him in. Even if we weren't experiencing this scare with the swine flu, but since we are.....why take a chance?

my 3 kids were like this with stomache bug last week

I would most certainly see a Dr. Health and safety are not to be compromised. YES, it may be nothing but I would not consider not seeing a Dr. if my child had a 103.5 fever.

My daughter is one who is rarely sick and she was at least 2 or older before any antibiotics were given to her. That said....fevers mean something to me because when she had one she was sick. Like I said she is very healthy but whn she does come down with something it is a doozy.

See a Dr.

I would take hime to the doctor. It could just be a virus, or it could be strep throat too. Sometimes with strep kids will complain of a stomach pain and headache but never say anything about a sore throat.

I got a bug myself just last week (and I know of another adult who had the same symptoms). I went from miserable, to feeling ok, especially after taking something. The stomach ache was VERY uncomfortable. For me, it lasted four days. If it had gone one more day I would have gone to the doctor. If my kids had gotten it (which they thankfully didn't), I would have taken them to the doctor. Don't know if this helps, but thought I'd share.
