I have used probiotics for my 2 yr old son but to treat constipation, not acid reflux. I did this because it has such good benefits for many ailments ad it worked great. I also used this when I was pregnant for the 2nd time and it also helped me. I am definitely an advocate for probiotics.

Hi M.,

When my daughter had problems with constipation and reflux which started around 3 mos. our doctor suggested Jarro's Baby probiotic formula. It worked wonderfully. She was formula and breastfed.

She is now 16 mos. and we use it whenever she becomes irregular with bowel movements and within a couple of days she's back on track. Its also safe to give everyday.

We were able to find the Baby Jarro online.

Probiotics are great! I would also recommend visiting a chiropractor - believe it or not. I had a friend who had the same problem with her baby, and the chiro helped IMMENSELY!! He was really gentle with her, and the symptoms disappeared within a couple of treatments.

Yes, I have given my son them since he was 4 weeks old per his MD for reflux. He is on 100% pumped breast milk (doesn't latch well). I don't think that is helped his reflux at all, but I do think it helped with his explosive poops. He ended up having to go on prevacid for his reflux. I have kept him on it since it helped with the pooping and maybe some gut pain. Worth a try. My only issues is how expensive they are...

I also agree, probiotics are the healthy bacteria that should be in your little ones digestive system anyway. So, worst case, you are only putting something in there that is already there, which means you can do no harm. Best case, you are providing her with something that she needs to properly digest, not only as a baby, but all her life!

I agree with the person who recommended a chiropractor. Find a really good one. - it can't hurt and they know something about nutrition as well.

I've used Udo's infant probioticsa w my breastfed baby for months bc he always got ear infections and had to take antibiotics...I ordered it online from www.myhealthmywolrd bc their price was better. Also sells in whole foods if u need it asap!

Good luck.

Probiotics are great, but they are for the large intestine while the acid reflux is probably occuring at the juncture of the food pipe and stomach. I'd advise a Chiropractor who sees alot of children.

Hello M.:

Your daughter may benefit more from Homeopathic remedies and Enzyme Therapy. They both will help to balance the digestive system and assist her to properly digest food. You may need to alter her diet to help the process completely. I suspect that her digestive problem started in-utero so it's best to appropriately deal with it now before she becomes an adult with severe digestive ailments.
