Hi N.,
I don't know about the "Bio Band" but when I was pregnant I used "Sea Bands" and they were awesome. They're a little tight sometimes but it was worth it to be able to get out of bed! You can get them on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Band-Sea-Band-Adult/dp/B0001AFM0W

Dear N.,

When I was pregnant with my oldest who is now 10 I used Emetrol. It has no medicine in it, it is a red syrup that you take a teaspoon of at a time when you are nauseous. It helped me out alot I was sick with him my whole first trimester I couldn't keep anything down. I recommend it to all my first time mother friends who are having problems with morning sickness. You can get it at Walgreens or CVS.

Dear N., I suffered with severe sickness with both my pregnancies - with my current pregnancy I lost 16 pounds in the first trimester. I've tried everything and nothing really cures the sickness. Mostly I've found it's better out than in when you feel this way. I just tried to keep my meals very simple - eat little and often - avoid smells that set it off (my husband missed garlic for 3 months terribly) - drink plenty of water. They do have prescription medication for sickness but I'm not keen on any medications during pregnancy. Stick with it - I'm now in my last trimester and feeling great.

I have used Sea Bands, available at drug stores, and they have helped. I just haven't been able to wear them all day, as my wrists start to get sore. The Sea Bands use pressure at a point in the middle of the back part of the wrist to help control nausea and are used for sea sickness and other nausea, in addition to "morning" sickness.
What has helped even more is the advice given in Marilyn Shannon's little booklet, "Managing Morning Sickness." I never have had only "morning" sickness. Regular small snacks/meals with both simple carbohydrates and protein have tended to help. As soon as you start to feel sick, have such a snack (eg. an apple with crackers and cheddar cheese)--even though you don't feel at all like eating. I often have gotten tired of eating during these times (usually up to 17-20 weeks) and I gain more weight during the first trimester than most, but these regular snacks have greatly helped me.
Congratulations on expecting another little one! All of those sacrifices are worth it!

Im assuming these are the same as Sea Bands? They worked well for me, along with ginger snap cookies regularly throughout the day. Fresh ginger (like the kind you get with sushi) works great but not everyone likes it. Also check out your local motherhood maternity store they have suckers and diffrent things that are supposed to help with nausea. Congratulations!

Hi,
In response to your Bio Band question. I used the wristbands for motion sickness, nausea etc. and they seemed to work. I think they are called SeaBand...Though I was flying very far and have motion sickness the bands worked pretty good. There is no drug or chemical in them they just go on the pressure points on your wrist. They do get tight after awhile and annoying but you get use to them. Better than nausea. Now I'm sure they work for some and not so good for others but my motions sickness is pretty band especially after my vertigo issues. I bought them for $8.99-$9.99 at both Osco or Walgreens. They are for travel sickness and nausea. I also asked the pharmacist and he only heard good things about them. He said that he worked with someone expecting who had horrible nausea and it worked for her really well.

Hope it works!

I did not use one, but know that homeopathic remedies can work amazing wonders, in just minutes even! if you get the right remedy. I recommend seeing Dr. J. Polich. She's in Naperville and helped me a ton w/ nausea when I was pg. And helped my son w/ his eczema and controlling his peanut allergy. here's her website: www.dupagehomeopathic.com
I w/b happy to email w/ you offline about homeopathy if you want! it's completely safe to take while pregnant AND nursing!
best of luck w/ your second pregnancy.

Hi N.,

I bought a Sea-Band in CVS for my morning sickness when I was pregnant with my youngest son. It worked ok, but I still had to suck on hard candy and eat crackers.

It cost around $10.

By week 12 the nausea is supposed to go away.

I swear by Sea Bands... I wore out a pair of them while I was pregnant. I still use them when I get nauseous. I also lived on Lemon Altoid Sours and Trader Joe's Triple Ginger Snaps while I was pregnant. I had one or the other every few hours for months....

Sorry, I haven't heard of it but have a couple tips for the nausea. Try supplemeting with 25-50mg of vitamin B6 3x/day (you can check with doc if you like). Rasberry, peppermint, or ginger root teas may help. If you can find the herb/plant, Lemon Grass it helped me by sniffing it when I was queasy. A good diet and pre-natal vitamins of course help too. I wish you the best!

The sea bands do work and can be purchased at most drug stores. But there are also some natural remedies that you might consider and it will promote better health for you and the baby. You want to make sure that you are using natural supplements that are safe. If you have any questions, let me know. Good luck!

Natural Remedies:

Morning Sickness - A Soy Protein Shake before bedtime or right before getting out of bed and B-Complex – nausea is due to low blood sugar levels

Nausea/Upset Stomach/Heartburn - Peppermint Ginger tea, Chewable CalMag

Fluid Retention/Swollen Ankles - Alfalfa (natural diuretic), Performance Drink (without sugar), exercise, water

Leg Cramps/Back Aches – Cal Mag (natural muscle relaxer), Vitamin E

Varicose Veins - Vitamin E (important for circulation)

Increase Energy – Soy Protein, B-Complex

Prevent Stretch Marks – Sustained Release Vitamin C

Excessive hair loss or acne after child birth – Saw Palmetto and Zinc

Labor Pains - Chewable Cal Mag Plus (helps ease contractions - calcium relaxes the muscles)

Yes and I can't say enough about how great it is. It is not a cure all but I was flying from Pennsylvania to New Mexico when I was pregnat with our thrid child and I got one from my Mid-wife. It really worked. I tend to get motion sick sometimes even when I am not pregnant and this headed it all off even in the air. Also, ginger capsels really helped with my first child. I was sick all the time and they made it SOO much better.

Congrats on the baby! I suffered HORRIBLY! I did the sea bands, ginger (of all kinds), small meals, Emetrol.. you name it. If someone said it could take care of the nausea & vomitting, I tried it. I lost over 15 lbs before I refused to weigh myself anymore. I finally had to give in to the Rx meds cuz I couldn't even keep water in. I survived the first 4 months on dry Cheerios & ice chips (it was all I could get down for any period of time - I'd wake up to vomit!) But, I swear I'd do it all over again for my (now 7 yr old) daughter! ;)

Hang in there, I was this bad for 4 months, then throwing up only in the morning for the next 3 month was actually a relief. Hey I had 1 good month a the end! ;)

Good luck!

Hi N. --
I used the "Sea Bands" brand for about 3 months last year for my nausea during pregnancy. LIFESAVERS. I bought two sets just to be sure that they were never far from reach. I loved how effective they were w/o any of the side effects of taking medications. On the worst days, the bands alone was not enough to take away all of my queasy-ness, but most days they completely took away that awful feeling.

Hi N.-

Congrat's on your pregnancy. I too suffered with terrible nausea early in my pregnancy. Unfortunately, this was also during a period of time where I did a lot of traveling to the west coast. Anyway, these worked incredibly well for me and I still use them every now and then to do this day. A definite must. Good luck.

I had really bad nausea with my son, and tried evrything possible! I tried the Sea Band, and it lessened my nausea, but did not take it away. When I knew it was coming on really strong, I would put them on (they would tend to bother me after a while) and they kept me from running to the bathroom. I would say, that if you are to the point where you will try anything, it would not hurt to give these a try. Just make sure you are wearing them correctly.

If you're talking about the motion sickness bands, then I HIGHLY recommend them. I am 25 weeks pregnant and could not have survived weeks 8 - 12 without them. In fact, I had two pair so that when I accidentally wore one in the shower, I had a clean pair for the day. I would, also, recommend Primacare prenatal vitamins (extra b6 component which is supposed to battle nausea) and avocados (has lots of B6).

When I was pregnant, I did try wearing them... not sure if they actually worked? My advice is to stick to eating lots of protein--stay way from the sugar--it just made me sicker. I ended up having to eat EVERY hour, otherwise I'd be sicker than a dog all day. I ate lots of nuts, peanut butter, baked potato's, when all I really wanted was a milk shake.
So, I'd try altering your diet first, then if that doesn't work, try the band.
Hope that helps!

Unfortunately, I also experienced extreme nausea in my first 2-3 months of pregnancy. The one thing that seemed to work for me was prego pops (suckers) that help with nausea. Hope that helps a little!
