Has Anyone Tried the NutraSystem Diet? DOES IT WORK? or IS IT a SCAM.

I was wondering if any of you have tried the NutraSystem meals or knew of someone who has? If so, were they any good? I really need to drop some weight and have been thinking about doing this. I thought that maybe with not having to think about what to prepare and the portions already measured out, it would be the easier way to go. What do you think?

or any recommendations for other products?

What can I do next?

I have used it in the past and it did work if you follow it .. I lost about 12 lbs in 3 wks, but then got bored with the food.

Check out Jenny Craig its almost the same thing but the food is a little better. And instead of paying for a whole month in advance you pay weekly and you are not under contract so if its something you dont like dont do it anymore..

Good luck !!!

I tried and lost about 20 lbs with it, but the food is not good at all. something about seeing chicken breasts, veggie burgers and hotdogs coming in a box (through mail order) but not needing refrigeration....that didn't sit well with my stomach.
Jenny Craig is better food -- some meals are frozen so they taste better. But if you have more than 20-30 lbs to lose...it's not a long-term option. They usually have a special going on...like 20lbs for $20 or something like that. See, you have to be a "member" to have the right to purchase Jenny Craig meals. one week's of Jenny is about $100. But you can use their special of 20 lbs for $20...and lose up to 20 lbs for a $20 membership fee. But after 20 lbs...you have to purchase a membership plan to keep purchasing meals from them. And those are pricey!! hundreds of dollars (just for membership!). So Jenny can get expensive if you have more than 20-30lbs to lose.

But then again, if you only have 20-30lbs to lose ...you can do that on your own...Weight Watchers has given me the most lasting success! I love going to the meeting to hear how others are losing weight -- what they eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner; what they do for exercise; where they go out to eat - what they order. It's great advice and support...and accountability ( I need that!)...because you weigh-in every week. So knowing that I'll be weighed by someone else (only one other person - a WW employee sees your #)...that keeps me honest throughout the week.
And when you purchase the monthly pass ($40/month) you have access to the website etools and points tracker/library of foods; and you can go to as many meetings as you want. Without the monthly pass, (if you want to pay as you go) each weekly meeting is $12....and there's a $20 registration fee. There's no registration fee if you sign up for the monthly pass - really, the MP is the best buy.

WW is the only program that has taught me what to eat and how to cook. I'm more educated on what foods are higher in calories and fat vs. the good healthy choices. Which is what we all need to know (they should teach this in health class in high school or something!) because it's no wonder i was gaining weight...i was eating high calorie meals at every mealtime and didn't even know it. Because when you think about it...this is a LIFESTYLE change -- this is something I'll work on forever. It's not a diet. Because as soon as I lost my weight from doing Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig...I gained it back when I went back to eating the foods I was used to eating. WW showed me that I can't eat those foods all the time...and what foods I need to replace those with....
anyway...just my experience on what has worked for me...and what didn't work (long term).

The program is a little more complicated than they would like you to believe when you order it because you are not actually buying "meals", just the main dish for each meal and are told what to eat along with it, so there is still some measuring and grocery shopping involved. I can not tell you if the program works or not because although the food tasted fine the first week, I couldn't stomach it after that. Good luck to you.

Honestly, I tried it last year. Although the food tasted great the first few days, I really missed fres, home-made meals. It started making me sick after a while. And, it is not exactly cheap. I love weight watchers. It is more sensible and much easier. They have two programs to choose from.

Here's an answer that I posted back in April of this year to someone else that asked the same question. I think you can go back and look at this post around April 2nd under a certain category of references/responses (not sure how). Anyway, here is my response:

I'm trying to lose baby fat too, but I waited longer than you to get serious about losing the weight (my daughter is 3 years old). I finally made the decision to get going on it and I chose NutriSystem. I began the their food plan on 3-15-07 and also started walking a minimum of 30 minutes a day, most the time an average of 45 minutes. As of this morning, 4-21-07, I have lost 15 lbs!!!

NutriSystem and Jenny Craig have many similarities, but I chose NutriSystem because of the added convenience and some of their promotional pricing that made it even more of a value. I like that ALL of their food is delivered directly to my front door and that it is ALL high-end technological...shelf stable packaging. I don't have extra room in my freezer or refrigerator to store addt'l food/meal products.

I also believe that AFTER I reach my weight loss goal, I will have re-established some awesome, lifestyle habits that will allow me to keep the weight off long-term. I personally respond well, as most people do, to setting goals and keeping track of those accomplishments in order to stay motivated and see progress. It's not just seeing the pounds come off or the inches (of which I've seen both...yea!), but it is in knowing and seeing that I'm getting enough water each day to keep my body & skin hydrated (and it keeps your body from 'holding onto' the water in extra pounds...because when you don't get enough your body preserves what you have as a safety mechanism), consuming the proper amount of fruits and veggies and really reducing my carb intake.

I feel more energetic and look healthy already. I feel better inside too, knowing that I'm doing something good for myself and for those that I love and I'm seeing the results in a fairly short time.

In regard to the taste of the food, NutriSystem has plenty of choices to keep everyone happy. Sure there are some meals that I didn't like as much as others, but I have TONS of choices for each meal occasion as well as the dessert, that completely satisfy me. And, within a short time you learn how to add-in things (be it your veggie or fruit allocations or other FREE foods) that are part of a healthy diet to enhance each eating experience.

Lastly, IF you do want to consider NutriSystem more seriously, please let me know and I can send you a $30 coupon (via e-mail) and provide you with the way to receive 2 weeks of FREE food when you sign-up vs. just 1 week of FREE food. I can also share how you will get FREE shipping everytime and another 10-15% discount. All these opportunities make NutriSystem very affordable at approx. $10/day or less.

I hope all this info helps. I wanted to make sure you had an overview from a happy NutriSystem user that is seeing results RIGHT NOW. Take care. Many Blessings - L.

I started the program 3/15/07 and stayed on it exclusively until 5/15/07. Then, I used it off & on throughout the summer and have continued to use it for most all my breakfast options and continued to eat healthy snacks and fillers. I also have continued to use the lunches from time to time too. Bottomline is that I lost 30 lbs. in 3 months. And, I lost another 5 - 7 lbs. thereafter and to date, I've kept it all off. I will say that during the first 3 months, I also began walking everyday without exception. So, I believe that the diet with the added exercise helped me to effectively and safely lose the 30 lbs. I would like to lose another 10-15 lbs, but may wait until January to get past the difficult holiday period. Hope that helps. Many Blessings - L.

Hi -

Actually I did nutrisystem to help me lose baby weight and lost 30 lbs. I loved the program while I was on it.

However, I lost some more weight (I'm now below my goal) through Weight Watchers and I think I like it better than nutrisystem.
You can eat whatever you what on it, just in moderation :D

However, I still think nutrisystem is a good program. Its just expensive. Most of the food is okay, but I would stay away from a few things such as the muffins.

If I were you I would try Weight Watchers first too see how you like that? YOu just count points.

I did it years ago when they had centers, and yes it worked. I think they have a money back guarantee also, so look into that. But yes it did work.
