Has Anyone Tried the Acai Diet?

I am struggling with 30 pounds of extra weight I have gained since my 1st child back in 2005. I now have a toddler and an infant to take care of and working out and eating right is challenging. I've researched online but all I get is advertisments that look like testimonials. The cost is 60 a bottle and requires an automatic payment (alittle suspect). One other very important factor is that I'm still nursing but will probably be weining very soon. If anyone can help, please give me some insight.

What can I do next?

The only diet that I have actually seen work for anyone I know is NutraSystem. I have a couple of friends that have been very successful with this change in their eating. They have kept the weight off for years.

After being diagnosed with a serious illness, I read a book written by a man who spoke to all of the top nutritionists in the country about health, diet and exercise and he said almost all of them came down to this: "Eat. Not too much. Mostly plants."
He also discovered that a lot of them recommended something called the Mediterranean Diet. You can find out more about it at: www.mayoclinic.com.
I'm trying to lose the baby weight too! Good luck.

Hi C.!
Its funny you should ask about this. My husbands karate instructor sells the Acai juice (mona vie) and has been trying to talk my husband into selling it. Now my husband is one to delve deep into research before doing anything. He basically came up with nothing. Its basically a juice full of anti oxidants. It wont help you lose weight. IF you really want to try it Costco sells acai juice for MUCH cheaper. Really the only diet that ever worked for me was the diabetes diet. Low carb, high protein. I have a three month old baby and I am already well below my pre pregnancy weight thanks to the diabetes diet. I hope you get some answers and find what works for you! Good luck!

If you need to rely on a bottle of something it probably will not work. Acai is not a wonder berry, there are no answers in a bottle. You have to change the way you eat. Try a bool called The Slight Edge. It is not a diet book but a book about small changes that shape your life. You are looking to develop a life style that is healthy and an example to your children. I use a product called Carb Blockers before I eat, it blocks carbs from being digested. It is not about eating what I want, it is about making decisions before I eat. Don't go for a wonder drug, what I use has a money back gaurantee, is organic and backed by a company that is 50 years old.

Try the book. Make decisions.

I have not tried the Acai Diet But I understand about not being able to work out with 2 little ones at home.
Something that worked for me that I lost my baby weight is I walked everywhere with the kids in the stoller.I mean everywhere. (That year I lived in shorts, tees and tennis shoes.) That is a work out pushing 2 children lots of places. We went to the zoo lots and pushing up those hills was quite a work out plus it's getting the kids out for an outing. Also any mommy and me classes that meet at the park is great for you and the toddler and you can take the baby. Exercise for both. Just make the outings part of your routine. We went on outings or class 3 times a week. If you live in the San Diego area there are mommy and me classes through the community college. You don't meet there it's elsewhere costs minimal and is fun. I still have friends from those classes some 14 years later. Make sure you start your morning with a healthy breakfast and drink lots of water. Pack the kids and yourself a lunch. Make a good dinner. The extra trick for me now is absolutely no snacking. You might need some healthy snacks since you're still nursing(celery,apples,100 calorie granola bars etc. If you set your mind that this is fun for you and the kids and keep busy with these physical outings it will help. On days you don't have mommy and me classes take the dog if you have one and the kids for a walk, or walk to the store, mall, park closet to you, walk the beach boardwalks,Misson Bay has a nice one. Friday was our zoo day, mommy indoor class was t&th.Outdoor class was Wed. They are only half days so you have time to do house chores and naps when you get home. They have an indoor class and an outdoor class avail. You;ll feel good and see results. Good Luck D. G.

Hi C.,
As many have already said, acai is an anti-oxidant. Anti-oxidants are great for cell health, immune system, etc, but it is only one piece of the whole picture. The best way to eat is balanced diet, following the new food pyramid, mostly fruits and vegetables, some whole grains and some protein. Someone referred to the "diabetes" diet. This is a low glycemic diet eating foods that do not spike your blood sugar. When your blood sugar keeps a nice even cycle, your insulin levels work properly, which allows the cells (particularly in the abdomen area) to release fat, and you lose weight naturally. Of course, this is done in conjunction with moderate exercise, like walking everywhere.
Dr. Ray Strand, an M.D. has an effective program for weight loss, his Healthy for Life lifestyle change. His website, www.releasingfat.com , is full of facts and science about eating low glycemic, has recipes, tables with the glycemic index of everything, and journaling to help you keep yourself honest and motivated on your weight loss program. (It also helps cut your cholesterol levels -- which is why I did it.) There are also some shakes and snack bars from Usana Health Sciences that Dr. Strand recommends as low glycemic meal replacements. They really work; no cravings; taste good; great when you don't want to cook. Get in touch with me, if you would like to know more about Usana or get preferred pricing.
Good luck with whatever balanced approach you choose.

I've never tried the Acai diet. But I can tell you that there are nutritional weight loss systems that are backed up by solid science and are approved for use while nursing. One that I used to lose 15 lbs (that I was able to keep off in between babies #2 and #3) is put out by Shaklee. I used their Cinch line and was totally impressed by how easy it was to use, how great I felt, that I never felt deprived or hungry, and that I did not need to worry about wrecking my own metabolism while dieting like most diets. Can't recommend Shaklee's Cinch program highly enough!

Hi C., my husband and I have been doing The Flat Belly Diet from Prevention Magazine for a few weeks. It's been fun - we can have nuts, avocado, chocolate, sunflower seeds - all our favorites - he's lost 16 pounds and I've lost 7! I've lost 2 inches from my waist, 2 from my abdomen and 2 from my hips! My husband needs to wear a belt to keep his pants up, and he fits into clothes that he hasn't worn in years. He can even slip his wedding band on! It is a LOT of food - especially the first 4 days. The recipes are delicious, healthy and quick to make. We started the week before Thanksgiving! So all during the holidays, all the parties and all the times we cheated - we still lost weight! We keep meaning to start working out - the only exercise we get is pushing our daughter around the block - and yet the inches keep disappearing!

I just bought some Acai juice at my local health food store (Rainbow Acres). They also had it in a powder and capsule form from a company called Sambazon which you can find and buy from on-line (Sambazon.com). I just drank my first of three ounces for the day and it tasted OK. I saw the on-line testimonials and offers from other companies selling their free trials as well, but then I also read how many people bought into this and then felt it was all a scam. My advice is try to find it in a local health food store or order directly from Sambazon as to avoid any scams with automatic credit card charges. Hope this helps.

Hi C., are you talking about Monavie? If you are, it truly is worth the money. Cleans out the body, gives you energy, etc.
However, if you're struggling losing weight, go see your doctor first. Many women post partum, end up with a thyroid problem, hypothyroid or low functioning. Which means it's not working right. It happened to me and once I got my levels normal, I started feeling better and lost the weight. I also have a good friend that has a little girl who is almost 2 and she still hasn't been able to lose weight. And she's a healthy and active person. The doctor said, some women while nursing, won't lose weight till after they stop. So get checked first and make sure that physically all is ok.
Good luck.
