I tried Similac Alementum for my son when he was about 2 months old.
But it was for diahorrea and it works.I used it for about a month. Then I gradually give him back his regular Similac.
the brand that Eve mention is like miracle but I had forget the name (Neutramigen) It is very expensive but it is the best.

I used Alimentum when my son was 4 months old. He was breastfed but was supplemented with formula because he was so little at birth (4 lbs 9 oz). At 4 months he developed reflux and we switched to Alimentum. He did really well on it. The reflux cleared up quickly and we switched back to regular formula after.

YES- the only one I had success with for my baby. I also added bifidobacterium infantis (probiotics for babies & nursing mothers) from NATREN's Life Start which I got at the better health food stores. I would add 1/4 teaspoon to 8 ounces of the Alimentum as well as 1/4 teaspoon of pure fish oil from Nordic Naturals or Carlson's (both are PCB & mercury free) THey are independent laboratory tested unlike many on the market. THis increased support for his immune system as he developed when he needed to take the formula during my work hours (I just wasn't able to pump enough milk) but I nursed him when I was with him.
THe Alimentum helped tremendously with cutting back on GERD & throwing up etc... Most formulas are poorly made especially for our infants. They have larger amounts of some of the minerals than the baby can use and contributes to their getting these symptoms. ALso the milk proteins are not able to be tolerated by the babies as they are not broken down proteins and are from cow's milk. Mommy's milk is very different. Alimentum is broken down milk protein making it utilizable and won't disturb the babies digestive system which is immature and not developed fully.

Very Very expensive and I got far better results with Nestle Good Start because of their patented "Comfort Proteins".....I used the soy for the first year and then at age 1 I begane to slowly introduce their milk based formula in with the soy until she was less on the soy and more on the milk and had no reaction.
Colic is tough on baby and you.
I tried many different formulas but found that the Good Start was perfect for my daughter.
Ihave suggested it to other friends and family and they all rave about it. To see a happy contented baby with just the first bottle? Absolute joy!!
It is an excellent formula as far as nutrition and is more economical than the Alementum. $60 a can??? Crazy!
I would have given it to my daughter if that was the only thing that worked...but it didn't help like the Good Start did.
I too saw results with the FIRST bottle for her.
I used less Gas-X and didn't need to have her on the Zantac at all since there was such an improvement.
Good luck to you.
I know you want only the best for your baby boy and you want him to be comfortable. The least we can do for them, right?
Best wishes,
P.

my son did not do well on Alimentum. He still spit up tremendously. My friend suggested Neutramigen, which is Enfamil's brand, and after speaking with the doctor, I switched. He did very well on it. Very expensive, see if your insurance will pay for it, or part of it, since colic/reflux is a medical issue.

Hi J.
My children are 6 & 7 now but they both had horrible reflux and we tried everything. Our baby nurse told us to try Carnation. It worked the best and it is also the least exspensive. I highly reccomend it. Good Luck!!!

A 6 month old baby should not be on Zantac... it has never been tested for safety in infants and is being prescribed off label. It will cause health problems later on in your child. Get a new pediatrician right away.

Alimentum is a wonderful formula, it works in less than 48 hours you will notice the difference. Yes it is a bit pricier than others, but I know that their are always samples at your pediatricians office and their are usually some sort of coupon. If not have the office call the rep. Carnation is all hype, it is NOT cheaper it was many years ago, and people still think so. It is also not hypoallergenic, so if your child has an allergy that is not the formula you want to use. Oh BTW their is no such thing as "comfort Proteins" that is all marketing!
