Has Anyone Taken Macrobid for UTI During Pregnancy?

Hi moms,

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and was just prescribed Macrobid for a urinary tract infection. After reading on the web I'm concerned whether the drug is as safe as the nurse let me think. Please let me know if any of you have taken Macrobid for a UTI during pregnancy and what your experiences have been.

Thank you in advance!

A.

What can I do next?

Hi,

My dad is a urologist and he said Macrobid is definitely one of the antibiotics that you can take while you are pregnant. He prescribes it all the time, so not to worry.

Good luck and congrats!

I took Macrobid for a UTI when I was about 12 weeks pregnant with my first child. He had no ill effects whatsoever. I definitely wouldn't let the UTI go. Also make sure you finish all of the prescribed antibiotic so you don't get a recurrence of the infection. Best wishes!

I took Macrobid for a UTI when I was 4 weeks pregnant and didn't have any issues. Good luck:)

I understand your hesitation, I too with pregnancy disliked to take anything not natural. I agree with the drinking as much as possible...cranberry juice is terrific. I also found that taking garlic and vitamin C together creates a natural antibiotic that does not harm the baby, nor do you ever develop an immunity to. Everything is natural, organic, and backed by a 50 years history. I hope you find what works for you. Take care and best wishes with your pregnancy.

I took it during both of my pregnancies and everything was fine. I got a UTI at the beginning of my pregnancies as well! Not sure why. I hope you are feeling better soon!

It's been a while but I'm pretty sure it was macrobid I was taking for my UTI issues while pregnant. It was bad enough that I actually took some each time as a preventive measure instead of letting it get full blown and taking a full course so often.
My son is a bright healthy and usually a good little boy so no worries there.

I agree with the other posters that leaving the infection untreated is more dangerous than the macrobid.

I DO drink and pee and all that, but just have always been so very prone to UTI's since I married up to my pregnancy. After my pregnancy & birth, it has seemed to subside so I have only had maybe 2-3 times in the 6 yrs since- and this to me is a WOW! cuz I was getting them every month or every other month, it seemed. I am not sure if it had more to do with the regimen of taking a pill afterwards to prevent a fullblown UTI or giving birth, but for whatever reason, I am glad I dont have it as bad as before.

I am prone to UTI's. My doctor said it was safe although, there is an over the counter medicine called AZO that works just as well. You may want to ask the pharmacist about it. Also, lots of cranberry juice and vitamin c. Maybe Wild Oats has something more natural too, you may want to check it out.

Good Luck,

i am a labor and delivery nurse and patients take this all the time. it is prescribed VERY often and i have never seen any problems associated with it. better to clear up the UTI...infection is not good for babies! so take the full course and all with be fine. drink lots of water and cranberry juice. good luck!
