Has Anyone Out There Experience Cervical Cancer
I just found out that I have cervical cancer. I see my oncologist on the 29th and I guess he'll tell me what I have to do or if there is further testing, I don't know...The pathology report says I have stage 1B, I'm not sure if this would change once the dr. reviews my slides. My gyne dr. had a oncologist review the slides and he said he would recommend a radical hysterectomy (this was a conversation between them). Since it turned out that he is not in my insurance plan. I have to see a dr in my network and thats scheduled for next week.
Right now I just feel so scared. I have 3 young babies and all I think about is them. Has anyone out there experience something similar.
So What Happened?™
Just wanted to give everyone a quick update. I did have a radical hysterectomy done on July 10th. The surgery went well. I receive the biopsy reports and the cancer did not spread beyond the cervix. I'm just now recovering from the surgery, taking it day by day.
I want to thank everyone who kept me in their prayers and gave me hope. I was so scared, but now I know I will be okay. Thanks again!

I can only imagine how scared you are. I can offer you a prayer for a QUICK recovery. I wish you all the best. My good friend's sister was diagnosed last year with cancer and also has three young kids. She right away got on the caringbridge website. It can offer a LOT of support in a time like this. I am not sure exactly how it works, but I don't know her sister and I have written her several times to offer support and it may just help lift your spirits when you are going through really rough times. I wish you nothing but God's blessings and hope He keeps you stong for your kids. Take care A.. You are in my prayers.

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I will send many prayers and good thoughts your way. My friend had cervical cancer and she is now 2 years cancer free! She also had a hysterectomy and some chemotherapy but did very well. Please get a second opinion before you do anything and educate yourself about your choices. Keep a positive thought! It's very important.

I lost my stepmom to cancer. It started out as breast cancer, then about 10 years later it turned into cervical, then a year later it turned into brain cancer. I know how scary this is. I would urgue you to take a look at www.healthquarters.org and contact David Frahm with this question. He lost his wife to cancer and has devoted his life to helping others. He is amazing and has helped so many people (as you can read in his monthly newsletters)
Also, I would recommend going to the Chicago Natural Health Expo. They have tons of speakers and booths that are devoted to cancer.(Kurt Donsbach is amazing) This is on June 27, 28, 29. Check out www.HealthFreedomExpo.com.
You are able to beat this. Know everything possible about cancer and you will make the right decisions,no matter what.

A. - I'm so sorry for your diagnosis. I don't have experience with it, but wanted to send you hugs and prayers. I know MD Anderson is one of the premier cancer centers in the US. They have a site on cervical cancer http://www.mdanderson.org/diseases/Cervical/ Maybe there's some good info there to help you.
I second http://www.imermanangels.org/ as well. They set you up with someone who's already been in a similar situation as yours - diagnosis, stage, age etc.
Also, http://www.cancerwellness.org/ has good support systems.
Good luck and try to keep a positive attitude and have fun! That totally helps more than one would think.

Dear A.:
First, let me tell you to remain HOPEFUL! I was diagnosed with cervical cancer on July 9, 2003; I was at stage 2B when I went to see a specialist--a GYN-ONC--he deals with womens' cancer issues all the time. Second, please find a GYN-ONC to examine you; a regular OB-GYN may not have enough training in this area. Third, if you are not certain about the treatment program your doctor advises for you, by all means, get a second opinion. I was not a candidate for surgery so I had to go through chemo and radiation for 6 1/2 weeks, but I had wonderful doctors and support staff who helped me through this difficult time. Also, check out a website that has helped me a lot: nccc-online.com; they have an email buddy program. Just sign up and they get an email or phone buddy for you to communicate with--every woman has experienced cervical cancer. The name of the website is National Cervical Cancer Coalition. I'm also going to give you my email address if you want to talk: ____@____.com. Please DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME.

A.,
I've never dealt with anything like this, or known anyone who has. But I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about you. Please try to stay positive as I've always heard that's the best thing you can do for yourself to fight this.
Good luck. Keep fighting. Stay positive. And please let us know how it goes for you. I'll be thinking about you and hoping everything works out.

Being that you have to see another doctor in your network, that is a second opinion and I would go for it. I have had displasia before and to this day feel the test results may have been inaccurate. I had to have cryosurgery. It is scary, where that is not a hysterectomy, for me it was well what if they were wrong and that doesn't do it. I wasn't smart enough at the time to have further opinions. I would say, talk to the doctor in your network, get the facts and any other testing to be sure. From there you can make the decisions about what to do. I have learned since (I had open heart surgery in 2001), the more research you can do and the more knowledgeable you can become - that is the nest medicine. Be active in what is going on - ask questions and I can say with assurance, that is what brought me peace. I will be praying for you and the family. If this was a normal visit for you (yearly), I would say you have very good odds for you. Don't panic, get the knowledge and be active in the questions and the care! You know your body! Stay in control!
