Has Anyone Had This Done?

Has anyone had a one rebroken to be reset? Of course that would have to be by a doctor, but what is it like? Does it hurt a lot, as in more than leaving it where it sometimes hurts (sometimes a lot) and can't really be used for lifting anything over about 10lbs?

Where would the line be to leave it (it has healed) and get it checked out?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It was broken about three years ago and it was never set by a professional, and it seems as if it has never healed properly.

My husband had this done. It hurt like hell... they gave him no warning or no pain meds either though, so that is something to discuss with your Dr.

But longterm, it is much better for a broken bone to be reset correctly than to heal wrong.

You can't just "rebreak" it and set it. You will need reconstructive surgery that involves sawing through the bone at the site of the break, removing any "wrongly" formed scar tissue and resetting the bone, likely with an external fixator that keep everything in place and rigid while it heals.
If you need your wrist fixed I would strongly suggest seeing a specialist.
Good luck!

I'd say get it checked by a good ortho! Not sure of your age, but my brother broke a hand years ago - and it was set and all but cast before all swelling went down, so he could remove the thing when the swelling went down - obviously not good (and mom still is upset with herself over not seeing the doc she really wanted)...

The broken area will likely be more susceptible to arthritis and such - your wrist may let you know more about the pending weather than your local weatherman!

I think you are referring to a broken bone that has/has not been set (?).

It depends on how bad the 'rebreak' is & where it is as to the pain & your ability to lift. If it's on your arm or hand they don't want you to pick up ANYTHING over a pound until the second set of pictures when you go back to remove the original cast.

If this is a bone that has been set awhile ago, healed & now you have rebroken it, you NEED to go NOW & get treated. I don't know your age but the older we are the more difficult it becomes for our bones to heal. Get to the ER if you think you have a broken bone!

This is no 'line' if you believe you have rebroken you must get another Xray!

Hope you are simply hurting, not broken!
