Has Anyone Had Lasik Eye Surgery?

I moved to McKinney over a year ago from Nebraska. I was all set to have Lasik done in NE and then we found out we were moving so I held off on having it done there for obvious reasons. Now that we're settled in here, I'm interested in starting the search again to have it done here. All I have to go by so far is what I hear on the radio or read on the internet so I'm hoping to hear some of you who have had it done and if you could tell me about your experience, if you would recommend your doctor, etc. Any info. would really help me out at this point. Thanks!

Hi L.,
I've been entertaining the idea for years...and will get this done as well. My husband, brother, sister in law have all done the Lasik with Dr. Whitman, Key Whitman. It's not a cattle call, very professional and having gone with my husband- it's a very comfortable atmosphere. All of the above mentioned had it done at different times....so they are consistent. This will be my place...they have a Plano and Dallas location - ###-###-####. Good Luck!

My husband had his done a year ago, and we are pleased with the results, mainly becuz he astigmatism, and were afraid it wasn't fixable.
We chose to go to Key Whitman in Dallas off of Lemmon and Central Expressway, we would recommend him to anyone, my husband is now glasses free.

My husband had a consultation with Dr Booth, but went with Dr Whitman (Key-Whitman, you've prob seen the commericials) I'm sure Dr Booth is good, but his office is like a "cattle call" and high pressure. Dr Whitman was personable, no pressure, and results have been fantastic. And I got to watch the whole thing which was waaay cool. Best of luck in your decision.

Dr. Carter. He gave great, personalized info and we did not at all feel like cattle! My husband and I both went for his consult, and he had his done and is very happy. I'll go back as soon as I'm finished nursing and have mine done there.

L., I would suggest that you call the Carter Eye Center in Dallas. Dr. Harvey Carter did my lasik surgery about 4 years ago, and I was very pleased with both the result and all of the people in his office. Despite what Dr. Boothe's ads infer, Dr. Carter does indeed consult with you about the surgery and perform the surgery himself. I went to Dr. Boothe for an eye problem related to my MS (this was before I was considering Lasik) and was treated very rudely by him. Also, my sister used him for her Lasik and has had trouble with dry eyes every since.

Good luck!

I am going to have LASIK on Dec. 5th. After a lot of research, I have decided to go with Dr. Newberry in McKinney for the pre and post op MD. Dr. Newberry sends his patients to Dr. Lehman in Southlake for the surgery itself. I have had many positive remarks about them both. I love Dr. Newberry. He is very down to earth and friendly. So I will go to Southlake only for the surgery and will conveniently have my pre and post op visits in McKinney.

I had lasik at Lasik Plus in Plano by Dr. Smith. I went from -7 to 20/20. My regular eye doctor told me that the cut was so clean that 9 out of 10 doctors would not even know that I have had lasik. That was very reassuring. Just ask for a prescription for valium. I didn't have it and that is my only regret. Good luck!

I haven't had it done, but am looking into doing it soon. I had a consultation with Dr Mazaheri in Richardson this week. I actually met with him for the consultation to discuss the surgery and my concerns. I'm heading to Key-Whitman next week for a consultation. I've heard that basically the surgery is the same where ever you go, but the after care is drastically different from place to place.

I've heard good things about Carter Eye Center, Dr Mazaheri and Key-Whitman from people that have actually gotten LASIK there. (One friend worked at Dr Boothe once upon a time, and refused to get his surgery done there.)

Hi L.,
I have had Lasik eye surgery this year with Carter Eye Center and I'm very happy with it. I had to get extra tests done because I was an at-risk for glaucoma patient and the tests showed I did NOT have glaucoma. Recovery time was mimimal and my vision is 20/13.
Good Luck!

Yes, both my husband and I have had it (about 5 years ago). Dr. Carter is who did ours. We both were near-sighted. We both had good results. My husband recently had one eye "re-shot" since it had regressed a bit. He was even more complimentary of the process and the results than the first time since the technology has changed a bit. If you get it done, be prepared for about a month of a little blurriness and some issues at night (rings around lights). I remember getting frustrated with spending a lot of time on the computer right after the surgery. The surgery itself is so short and painless. Definitely worth it!

I had it done a little over 5 years ago at Carter Eye Care. The experience was good and I can still see better than 20/20. The day of the procedure my eyes were light sensitive but the pill knocked me out and I slept. It was so amazing to wake up the next morning and be able to see the alarm clock without putting my contacts in! I have some friends who have used Key-Whitman, too, and loved them.

My hubby and I had it done I guess around 6 years ago and have had no problems. It was by far one of the best things we have done. We had no problems. The first day your eyes burn and are really sensitive to light but our doctor gave us a sleeping pill after the surgery and suggested that we sleep as much as we could the first day. By the second day our eyes were a little sore, felt like you had something in it, and by day 3 there was little to no discomfort. We used Dr. Gary Tylock in Irving. We were very happy with everything at his office.

Boothe, Key Whitman, Dr M., Carter and Tylock are the top doctors in Dallas for Lasik. I had lasik about 9 years ago and the best advice I can give is to go to whichever of these doctors is closest to your house. There are a lot of follow up visits and yearly check ups as well. I went to Tylock and had a good experience, but after the fact wished I had selected someone closer to my home in Frisco.

Here is another vote for Dr. Whitman, of Key-Whitman. I had my surgery in 1995 -- my vision was 20/1600 and now is 20/25 or 20/30. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I could not function before without my glasses or contacts. It was so liberating to get rid of them!! Loved Dr. Whitman's bedside manner and his entire staff was wonderful.

It was one of the best things I've ever done for myself. It was quick and painless and after five years I am still seeing great! I first visited Dr. Booth, but felt like I was in the middle of a cattle call--he spent literally three minutes with me after about an hour wait. I chose Dr. Craig Bolton in Richardson and he was incredible. He gave very individual attention and put me completely at ease. I didn't realize how emotional it would be to actually see without glasses!

Without a doubt...pick Dr. Whitman at the Key Whitman Eye Center. It is very personal - NO cattle call. Dr. Whitman has been voted for numerous years one of the best doctors by D magazine. He has offices in Plano and Dallas. He did my eyes, my sister's eyes and my BIL's eyes. All with perfect results.

My wife had the surgery a few years ago from Dr. Boothe. She didn't feel herded at all, but then again, she's not a big baby. She passed the time listening to her MP3 player. It was her first time trying Valium, though. She couldn't tell what the effects were, but she was relaxed the whole time. What sold me on Dr. Boothe was his thorough knowledge of his industry and his precision of the whole operation (his business and the procedure.) He has a very unique reserved, calm demeanor, not at all cocky as you expect surgeons to be. For such a life changing surgery, the cost is an amazing value. After the procedure, it seemed like everyone we knew was suddenly admiting to having had laser eye surgery. I was irriated at them for not reccomending it sooner. As for dry eyes, no one ever reported that issue. For those who claim it, it be a psycho-somatic hysterical plea for attention. You're paranoid and dehydrated, drink some water.

My brother had lasik almost 4 years ago, and loves it! He went to Dr Booth. My father in law just had it last week, also with Dr Booth. His brother had it last month in Oklahoma. My uncle and cousin have both had it, but I'm not sure who they went to.

They are all very satisfied with their results! I wish I could afford it, but it's not possible for me now. My brother told me that Dr. Booth is very thorough, and very good! If/when I ever have it, I will go to him.

Dr. Boothe did my Lasik. Of course, he is the most experienced, which is why I chose him. However, you feel as if you are with a herd of cattle because he does the surgery on about ten patients at a time. You get to talk to all of your surgical buddies while you wait but, it isn't fun when he cuts the flaps, covers your eyes, and you have to wait for nine other people to get their surgeries completed before he gets to you....that's just a long time to wait "in the dark". But he did an excellent job and my vision is 20/15. My also are also very dry now where they were always very wet before.

I had it done in 2000 and have had no problems for the long term. I would ask for the valium (so glad I did!) like someone else recommended. I had dry eye for the first month or so, and the rings around lights at night for the first month or so (driving at night was not fun that first month), but after that it has been wonderful! It was definitely the best thing I've ever done for myself and well worth the investment. In January it will be 9 years! They told me that I will likely have to wear reading glasses when I am in my 40's, but I haven't hit that yet. I do agree that you shouldn't pick something too far away from home, because you do have to go for visits a lot at the beginning. I've had my eyes checked regularly for the last nine years and am still 20/20. Very happy. :) Good luck and congrats!!!
