Has Anyone Given Their Infant Zantac or Ranitidine?

My 1 month old daughter has been prescribed ranitidine(generic zantac) and I was wondering if anyone has had to give this before and were there any side effects. What was your expierence like?

What can I do next?

I highly recommend you to get a copy of the bestseller book: The Makers Diet (Dr. Jordan Rubin). You can get it in your local library as well.
His speciallity is gastrointestinal illnesses and everything related. He explains, step by step, how to get rid of all that kind of prescriptions, inlcuding Zantac.

Good luck.

Hi D.,
My son has been on Zantac for about 6 months now. He started it when he was about 4 months old. He is adopted and it took us a while for us to figure out what was wrong with him (Infant reflux). It has helped him SO much!
Of course I did not like the fact of having to put him on a medication at such a young age and then keeping him on it for and length of time. But it was so bad back then! He would just scream and could not eat anything. He also could not sleep but for only a few minutes at a time and then wake up screaming.
We are in the process of weaning him off of it (He's gotten the skill of sitting up now). So far he's doing good, just a little spitting up but no pain. I was giving it twice a day but now I have decrease it to once a day at night. I have never noticed any problems with him taking Zantac. It did take a while for him to get used to of the strong mint favor that comes with getting the liquid form! But shortly he loved taking it. I think he figured out that it was making him feel better.
What was you daughter diagnosed with? If it is reflux, I would also look into getting what is called a Tucker sling for her to sleep in inside of her crib. It helped our son a lot too.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me.
I remember feeling quite overwhelmed when my son was sick and I didn't know what to do.
Congratulations on your new addition!

My youngest was on it at a young age as well for acid reflux and it helped him A LOT. He threw up projectile from 7 wks until 15 months. I did not notice any side effects.

I hope this helps.

I too have a daughter who is 1 month (born July 17) and she is currently on zantac and doing great. I was leery at first too. My son was prescribed prilosec as an infant for his reflux and I hated the idea of medicating so I just kept him elevated for feedings and sleep and that worked. With my new daughter, that just is not the case so I caved and have been giving her zantac for about 2 weeks now and it has made all the difference. I tried taking her off it for a couple of days to see if it was really helping and her reflux and fussiness definitely got worse! So, so far so good.

I gave my daughter Zantac when she was about that age due to acid reflux. It helped her with the burning, but she still spit up until she was 8 months old. We did not notice any side effects. I was very nervous to give her medicine b/c she was so young. My pediatrician convinced me it was just "tummy medicine" and it did help. Later on, we switched to Prevacid instead of the Zantac.

Good luck!
