Has Anyone Dealt with Hand, Foot and Mouth.

Both my kids have gone through this, our doctor had me mix 1 tsp. benedryl and 1 tsp. malox. Then use a qtip to dab it on the sores 3 or 4 times a day. It helps numb the sores for awhile. Hope this helps.

you could take mylanta or malox and I believe mix with benydryl and swish and spit. my son had it at 3 and its miserable. lots of fluids of course avoid anything acidic.

My son had that last summer and my doctor recommended that he gurgle with Hydrogen peroxide and water 2-3 times a day. He wasn't too happy to do it but he did it anyways. His didn't clear up until they gave me antibiotics for it though. You may want to talk to your doctor again. It took almost 2-3 weeks before it completely cleared up. It's a tasty thing. And it's contagious.

Yes, our whole family had it a few months back! They say it is rare for adults to get it, but we were not so lucky. We were all in pain. My daughter is a little over a year. It was painful, and she didn't want to eat and was very fussy. We thought it was teething until we saw the sores in her mouth. It was about 4-5 days after the sores appeared that she was back to feeling better. We used the Pedialyte popsicles and ice cubes in one of those pacifier nets. A pea size bit of Orajel helped to numb her mouth too. Lots of holding and ice water in a sippy cup. Good luck!

I'm sure this wouldn't heal it, but I bet a nice cold popsicle would make it feel better. I love the Mighty Minis, they're the perfect size for little ones. They can eat them before they melt all over the place.
Crushed ice might also help. My mom used to give us crushed ice with grape juice concentrate when we were sick, it was such a treat.

My daughter had this a few times when she was younger. Doctors would all recommend gurgling, but that is hard for a kid (my daughter was under a year). I made a mixture of approximately half hydrogen peroxide and half maalox. Then I would soak a baby washcloth in this, wring it out so it isn't too soaked and freeze it in a baggie in the freezer. You can get a few of these going. Then when frozen I had her suck on it and this made sure the solution was on the sores and it actually tasted good to her. The thing is you don't want them to ingest too much of this. So try it once and honestly that should help a bunch. You could also dab this mixture on his tongue with Q tips. But my daughter had the sores for weeks with no relief, she wasn't eating or drinking or sleeping, so I had to figure something out myself!!!! It worked wonders! Good luck!

I would just use children's orajel on his tounge to numb the pain until the sores go away....

They have kids' flavors too so it wont be too terrible for him hopefully. Numbing can be a wierd sensation, but if he's in pain, its a better alternative!

It's going to be hard for a 3 1/2 year old to gargle ~ but usually the Ped Doc recommended Tylenol and freeze pops ~

I've had this about 3 times in my life and when I had it I was given a numbing gel that I could swish in my mouth before I ate. You might want to ask about something like that but I wouldn't try oragel because it burns on open sores.

Have him gargle with a liquid antacid. My daughter had HF&M,
her doc recommended this and it helped. : )

my two year old little guy is just getting over it now. our pediatrician reccomended the 'magic mouthwash'. mix 1 teaspoon maalox or mylanta with one teaspoon benadryl and if it is very painful you can put in some liquid 'orajel' or something similar. your little guy is probably too young to rinse and spit (as is mine) so you can swab it on with a cotton swab. i asked the pharmacist about this when i was trying to find the xylocaine and he said that quite often the pediatricians will call in a prescription for the mouth wash instead of having you make it yourself. You might want to ask your dr.?
