Has Anybody Made a Minecraft Costume?

My son wants to be a Minecraft skeleton for Halloween. It's not one of the Minecraft costumes you can actually buy (like Steve, Creeper, Enderman) but it's easy enough - a box for the head, and I saw a fantastic picture online where the body was black sweats with duct tape used to make the bones (easy to do since it's all so pixellated).

My question is with making the head. I know how to physically make it out of a 12x12 box, but with the design should I paint it on or print out a template (I found one online) and paste the paper on the box. The printed one would definitely look better - very straight lines - but if it happens to be misty or rainy that night I'm afraid the paper will ruin quickly.

Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to print it out and modge podge it - I think that may work best.

I saw a kid with an awesome one on the subway this weekend. (I guess he was headed to comic-con). His was laminated and taped onto a box. The arms and legs were cardboard (box tubes), sized to his arms/ legs, and covered in duct tape. Only trouble is, once he got the costume on, how was he ever going to get around??? (maybe he could be strapped onto a handtruck and pushed by a parent).

Best,

I agree with the idea of laminating also...I often use clear contact paper.

Good luck!

I printed out a Steve head last year and Halloween night had to cover the whole thing in plastic. It poured! The costume was a mess, but he had a blast!

Make sure to use the "Mod Podge Outdoor" type.

Could you print the template and then have it laminated? That would prevent rain from ruining it. Around here Lakeshore Learning laminates things. You could also check with FedEx/Kinkos to see if they do laminating. I think craft and office stores also sell self-laminating sheets. They may not be as big as you need, so you might have to piece it together carefully, but I think that would work just as well. Hope that helps!

You are defenatly smart for making your holoween costumes instead of spending a fortune on store bought ones. I know that I saw a skeleton head at walmart for 5 or 10 bucks. Im not sure if theyre clranced down that much at other stores. If not, you might be able to use black and white duct tape and design the face like the pants.

I don't know what it looks like, but if it is pixelated, you could cut it out of white and black paper and glue it on. That way you wouldn't have to worry so much about it running if it were misty or drizzly....

My grandson was Steve for 2 years... his other grandmother painted the head for him, and my daughter made him a minecraft sword out of art foam. He was really cute!

I haven't made any costumes. but my daughter did have a Minecraft birthday party. I do know that Party City sells Minecraft masks, they are square cardboard heads or check out Pinterest there are loads of ideas on there for Minecraft stuff.

My son was a creeper last year and the big head caused him nothing but problems all night. He couldn't see well and if he took it off he looked like a leprechaun in his green sweatsuit. He said no more minecraft costumes for him..

I made my son a TNT costume for a party last week. It was a big hit! and very easy. A box with a head hole, I sprayed it red, masked off the white parts and wrote TNT n sharpie.

I haven't made a Mincraft costume, but I prefer to make all my kids costumes. I would use the paper template and then mode podge it a few times (thin layers). You could make your own, but there are several modge podge on tge market for different purposes. You could use a spray sealant, but I think modge podge would work better.

The paper idea would look more real. Painting it with glow in the dark white would be super cool too.

I would think rain would ruin it either way since it is cardboard.
