My 3 and 5 year old both saw it, though we did cover their eyes at times.

Did she see Deathly Hallows part 1 or any of the other movies? Because in my opinion, part 1 was darker and scarier than part 2, (my kids didn't see part 1).

If she isn't accustomed to the storyline, then start from the beginning and watch or read them in order, don't start with this one.

As far as content, I would much rather my kids see this kind of movie than Hannah Montana and half of the Disney shows teaching about being catty and shameless flirting and such.

My rule is that my kids can watch the movie AFTER they have read/heard the book. So far my 9 year old has read the first 3 books out loud to my 6 year old so they have also seen the first 3 movies. At this rate they will be a bit older and more able to handle the rest of the books and movies when they get to them.

I would not take a 7yr old ... I saw it opening weekend ... I am a Harry Potter fan - read all the books, seen the movies, have collectables this is not intended for a 7yr old.
One thing JK did well about the series is it grows with the readers ... most kids are 9-11 when the pick up the series and typical youth readers read one each year or as they came out that was the intention. My son will be intoduced to the books aroud that age, we will read them as a family until he does not want to any longer. Mind you, Harry Potter is 18 in this final chapter and deals with 18 plus things. I would go see a cheaper showing on your own then decide if it's something you really want her to see.

I don't think the movie is appropriate for a 7-year-old. It's PG-13 and some websites I've seen recommend no younger than 12 years of age for viewing it, depending on your child. There is death and violence in it, plus it would be scary and intense for a young child.

I might let a 7-year-old see the first Harry Potter movie, but not the later ones. Even better, read the first book together!

Has she read it yet? I assume not. I am not planning on my son seeing the movies until AFTER he has read the books. While they are well done, I think seeing the movie first would ruin the books and they are wonderful. I am currently reading the first book to DS (5-1/2) and would be ok if he saw the first movie after we finish.

I may be a little overboard, but I don't let my kids see past number 2 (Chamber of Secrets), and my oldest is nine. Past number 2, the story line becomes increasingly mature and increasingly scary/disturbing, whereas the first two are mildly scary but mostly just fun/adventurous.

My 5 y/o saw it and loved most of it. Was only scared of one part... when Harry talks to the Ravenclaw ghost, because in the 3D part, she yells and has a mean face right in your face.

I had prepared her for the war scenes in here and told her many good people die in this movie. Personally, I think Dobby's and Hedwig's deaths were more hard for her in part 1 then the deaths of the characters in part 2.

We've watched every single HP movie together and read up to #3 together.

I just saw it. It is scary and "dark." Personally I wouldn't let a child under 12 or 13 see it. Isn't it rated PG13 anyway?

I wouldn't let her. Watch the other movies first-they are much lighter. In a year or 2 watch Deathly hallows. I would also encourage her to read all the books. They are fabulous and the movies are so true to them and there is so much that you would not know if you only watched the movies.

There's no way I'd let my 8 yeard old son watch this movie. It's way to dark and scary IMO for him.

I wouldn't let my son see it at 7, it's pretty dark.

My child is TEN, a very mature reader, has read all the books more than once, and was only just this weekend allowed finally to see the fourth movie ("Goblet of Fire"). We have kept her to the first three movies until now because of the intensity of the imagery and the increasing (though essential for plots) violence. I will not let her see anything beyond the fourth film for now -- despite the fact all her buddies are seeing it -- because it's too much and because (very important to me) I want her own imagination to be where these characters live, without her mind just filling everything in with the moviemakers' images.

Stick to your gut instinct and do not let your child of seven see this latest film. First it will overwhelm and on some levels even bore her, especially as she is too young for the detailed plot. And more importantly it is too intense and violent. You don't say in your post whether you have read any or all of the books or seen any of the other movies yourself. If you have not, be aware, this film is the final installment and culminates in a very lengthy battle that kills several longtime characters. If you have and know that -- then you are right in your instinct that this is totally inappropriate for a seven-year-old. Seven is even too young for the books, though many parents let kids this young "read" them or see all the films.

I've been at several earlier Potter films where parents had brought kids who were clearly four, five, six, seven-ish, and the kids inevitably were either bored silly during the talky parts and/or scared stiff (sometimes crying) in the scary parts. Stick to the ratings system and wait until your child is much older and you can truly enjoy these films together!

I let my 8 year old see it but only after he finished reading the book so that he would know what to expect. He was very sad about Dobby and Hedwig. My older son had already seen it and I did check in with him to see if there was anything that my youngest might be frightened by. We all had a great time.

I saw it this weekend in 3d. I loved it. Not sure if your girl has seen the previous potter movies, but I wouldn't start with this one as her 1st. If she is an old fan of the other movies, she will be ok because of course, theres a happy ending and all things are resolved in a positive manner. Scary things included a post Dumbledore era of bleak darkness at Hogwarts, huge slithering snake that attacks at one point. Fire that looks like a snake. There is a chaos scene where vampires and villians of all sorts go on a rampage that ends in some deaths. But the story line is brilliant and like I said, happy ending. Again, I highly reccomend that 3d version - so cool. man, im a nerd.
