I think its called Iron Out . . . it's in the grocery store with the rest of the toilet cleaning products. It's a liquid and its in a brown bottle that is about an inch thick, about 4 inches wide with a white cap. (You'll know it if you see it.) I didn't even have to really scrub, just put it in the toilet and it worked. I have septic and it is septic safe.

Buy a pumice stone at a hardware store and with some "elbow grease," you can remove the mineral sediment. The stone will not scratch the surface.

This probably sounds obvious, but have you used just straight vinegar and let it sit for a while? I have this problem as well and I have to use filters on everything - even my coffee pot, because of it. I always buy several gallons of store-brand vinegar at a time, just for cleaning. Even doing that, it is still cheaper than other (more harsh) options and for me it is more effective. To clean: I flush my toilet and then, while the water is low, I pour in a good bit of vinegar. Don't be conservative here, especially if you have built up stains, really pour it in. That way less water comes in the bowl and the concentration of vinegar is stronger and more effective. Make sure you pour enough that the water line (of vinegar) is just slightly higher than the stains. Then walk away. Let it soak for as long as your family will let it. :) Then go back and scrub. As bad as my toilets were, that has worked every time for me. Good luck and happy scrubbing. :) *Also, when you flush the vinegar smell will go with it, so don't worry about that.*

Sno bowl works really good. But you need to let it sit in there for a while.
I know Walmart use to carry it, but they haven't lately. I usually get it from the Family Dollar. Good luck!

This sounds like a job for rubber gloves and fine sand paper. I seen it done on " How clean is your house" and the toilet looks great when they were done.

Brillo pads or SOS pads work extremely well. We have hard water and RUST - cleans it every time. Make sure you turn off the waterflow under the toilet first and then flush manually so there is little to no water left in the bottom. Use rubber gloves as the metal fragments can stick you.

Also I was told if you rub a ring of Vaseline around the water line it slows the build up!

My mom uses lime away and a pumice stone, but she turns the water off and drains the bowl first. You have to be a little bit gentle with the pumice stone on some toilets, or you can take the white finish off and be left with dark.

I have seen eveyone talk about the pumice stone and they are right! They sell it in the cleaning section of walmart grocery store and its shrink wrapped. I had nasty hard water stains due the well water and this saved me!! It didnt scratch my toilet and i even used the stone on my shower, glass walls, etc. I never found a chemical to clean it right and I think this was under $3.00. Good luck!!
