Hard Floor Cleaners

I am looking for a new mop/hard floor cleaner. We have tile and wood floors. I've been using the Swiffer wet jet on the tile, and it doesn't clean good at all. If there's anything on the grout, it won't get it off. I use a "mop" with a terry cloth cover for the wood floor, and it does ok. Is there anything that I can use on both? I was thinking about the Shark steam mop. Any suggestions?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think I am going to buy the Shark mop for the tile and see how everything goes.

I would recommend the Shark steam mop. I works great on my floors! I have both tile and laminate floors and it works great on both.

Hi A.,

I got handscraped hardwood floors at the beginning of this year, and what the flooring company recommended to me was Bona. You can buy the kit with the mop, a duster pad and a cleaning pad, and a spray bottle cleaner. Bona makes the wood shine and cleans really good. Bed, Bath & Beyond sells it, and you can get 20% off if you have one of their coupons. The kit is about $30, and the spray will last you a long time. You can also buy a 64 oz. refill for $13.

If you have "real" hardwood DO NOT use water with or without soap, it will stain the wood. If you have laminate or vinyl hardwood, Bona has a product you can use both on tile and laminate and vinyl floors.

Hope this helps!

I have a Shark steam mop and love it. I have tile and laminate wood and it works great. It doesn't clean the grout, so you'll have to find something else for that, but it does clean the floors really well and without any chemicals, which I love. On hard woods, you would want to try in an inconspicuous spot to make sure it's not too hot for them. It could leave a mark if you were to hold the mop over the area for too long of a time, but it does say it can be used on hard woods. I would suggest buying it at BB&B since you can use a 20% off coupon and only end up paying $65 for it.

I just bought the sonic scrubber for use on my grout and it works really well too. I just spray some cleaner and use the scrubber and it works good. Hope this helps.

I got the shark for my hardwood floors. I absolutely love it. It dries as fast as it's wet, so you don't have the problems of wet mopping on wood. It doesn't use cleaners, so the floors stay clean longer. The only thing is that it takes muscle. It doesn't glide over hardwood as easily as it does on tile. It's worth the effort though.

The Shark is awesome (got mine at Costco)! Also it is safe because it just uses water!

Try the shark mop they sell them at bed bath and beyond and also at best buy they work totally on steam and are safe on wood floors. I have one and you should see the dirt that comes off my floor you would think that i had never cleaned them before I have been reading some of the other resposes and just my advice (my husband is in the ceramic tile business)and never never use vinegar on your tile it will ruin the grout

I got one of the original Swifters when they came out and it was a farce.

I've used a Hoover Floormate for several years now. I'm on my second one. I'm surprised no one mentioned it.

With all the Shark steam mop recommendations, I may have to research it when it's time to replace the Floormate.
