Do it at work! LOL!

It will explode with a loud pop....

Anyways. NO.

Boil them in water. You can do it in the morning too you know. It doesn't take a long time.

Nope though it was tempting to say sure, put them in the microwave. :p They explode by the way.

That time I checked an egg cooked in its shell in the microwave would explode (no way for steam to escape). Even an "over easy" could explode from the yoke because the yoke membrane could hold in steam.

But really it only takes about 15-20 minutes to hard boil an egg (depends how fast your stove boils water..... then turn it off and let them sit in the water (about 12 min for medium, 15-17 for large)

Sorry. Maybe it would make life interesting in the lunchroom, though...

I don't know a "quick" way, but as another woman said, you can hard boil several and keep them all week long. I steam my eggs in a steamer for 16 minutes - that way, I end up with perfect hardboiled eggs. I never have to worry about the shell cracking and the yoke is perfectly cooked through (and I don't have to watch/pay attention to the pot). Then, I put them back in the egg carton in the fridge.

Good luck,
L.

Do NOT put an egg in the microwave, you will be sorry ;)
There are only 2 methods that I use for boiling an egg. Boil for 8 minutes, or 2) bring to a boil, remove from heat, put the lid on and wait about 12 minutes.
I've also brought a pan full of eggs to a boil at night, turned off the heat and left the lid on and then used them the next morning.... nothing bad has ever happened by leaving them out overnight.
I assume you like to eat your hardboiled eggs warm? I do to. So it is a bummer that there is no quick way to make them in the work environment.

Hard boiled eggs last a LONG time in the fridge. Why not just boil some at the beginning of the week, and take them to work already boiled?

You CAN hard boil an egg in the microwave, but I wouldn't ;) You won't have much egg left.

I boil 4-6 eggs at a time when I make boiled eggs, you can store them in the fridge for quite a long time without them getting bad (at least a week), just leave them in the shell.
Do not put them in the microwave... they will explode.

You can't boil an egg in its shell in the microwave, but you can crack it into a dish and then cook it. Not really hard-boiled, but the texture is similar.

I've had 2 different dishes that were designed just for this. One was plastic, shaped like an egg, and had a locking lid with a tiny hole to let steam out. The directions recommended poking a hole in the yolk and adding a few drops of water. I just bought a new dish that is flat with a hinged lid. You add an egg (and a sausage patty if you want) and it cooks it to be the perfect shape to go on an english muffin for a breakfast sandwich. I've tried using small microwaveable glass dishes, but I don't have the right lid and it is more difficult to wash them later.

I have seen a new product where you crack the egg into an egg-shaped container thing, and boil THAT. The idea being that you get a hard boiled egg without a shell to peel... I wonder if it's microwaveable?

I found this microwave egg boiler... it's not what I was talking about, but it may be something for you to look into.. :)

I've never done it but I don't see why you couldn't use a glass bowl, an egg and some water (the water would be important) and just boil it in the microwave for 10 minutes. It may take a little trial and error for the timing but I'll bet it can be done!

My MIL would take a dozen eggs and put a tiny bit of food coloring in the water or a slice of red onion, then when they were cooled she would put them back in the fridge. My FIL just takes out the sharpie and makes an HB on them once they are cooled.

My MIL had the perfect recipe. You put the eggs in the pan loosely then cover them in cool water. You put them on the burner and bring the water to a boil. Once they are fully boiling you put the lid on the pan, turn out the fire, take the pan off the hot burner, then walk away. For at least 30 minutes. When you come back they are perfect. Not too hard but fully cooked.

They are already half cooled at this point too.
