Hand Foot Mouth Virus- Non- Traditioanl Remedies

We are just getting over, I hope, Hand, Foot, Mouth Virus and I wanted to know if anyone had any tips? My little one seems "fine" in the day but at night she is just so unhappy. We think she has a headache, which is very common with this virus.

We take showers (which help for some odd reason). Motrin/tylenol, ice for the throat.... I am just curious if anyone has any "non traditional" suggestions that might help. I am hoping we are pass the worse part but I thought that yesterday and was up ALL night.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you all for the advice. I think we are finally passed the bad part. She actually slept last night. Yesterday we did the back and forth between Tylenol and motrin and took some benadryl before bed. She is MUCH happier today.

I am definitely going to use some of the advice in the future!

THANKS!

When my child got it years ago my Ped told me to mix dose of Benadryl and a little teething gel, shake it or mix it well, this will numb her through where most of the painfull sores are.
Good Luck to you and your little one! :o)

We are just getting over the same virus with my almost 3 year old. Our doctor suggested giving our son a teaspoon of regular adult Mylanta 2 or 3 times a day to coat the throat which had many ulcers. It worked for us.

When my son had this, his doc perscribed a med that was benedryl, lidocaine , and either tylonal or motrin (i cant be 100% sure, but if i remember right that is what he took), but anyway it seemed to help alot, and he got over it rather quickly, and his baby brother didnt get it either. I hope this helps you any.

You will be amazed as to what essential oils can do for you and your family. If you have any questions or need to order any oils check out my website. www.youngliving.org/sherylhawkinson
I will be happy to help you with any questions you may have.

Try using Tea Tree Oil. Dilute it to 1% in a base oil like sweet almond. You can buy both at any health food store. This is good for almost any type of virus. For headaches combine 3 parts Lavender essential oil and 1 part Peppermint essential oil. Again anytime you are using essential oils on a baby you want to dilute to a 1% essential oil in a base oil. Give a light massage. These things are available at any health food store or I can make them for you. ____@____.com

J.,

I know what you child is going through. I got this virus as an adult and was miserable. My daughter recently got the virus as well and the doctor told me to mix equal parts Maalox (for heartburn) and benedryl and give her a half of a teaspoon 30 minutes before she eats or sleeps (whenever she has the most pain). The maalox helps coat the mouth and throat while the benedryl make the itching/swelling of the bumps go down. (This also works for strep throat.) The doctor told me that the sores can also be in the throat and stomach and that may be why sleeping and having a dry throat is uncomfortable.

When my grandson had this (Herpainger - I'm not sure of the spelling), his doctor recommended to make a mixture of Maalox and Tylenol and administer. To a tablespoon of Maalox add 2-4 drops of Tylenol. Then take your finger and dip it in the solution and rub on the top of the mouth and as far back as you are able without gagging your daughter. Worked for us.
