Halloween Costume Help

Just trying to gather other ideas for this costume idea: my coworkers and I would like to be Scrabble tiles, each of us being a letter and together spelling out a word. I'm not sure what material/fabric to use...tan colored felt? then sew on black letters and numbers or color them in with marker? Scrapbook paper seems a bit too small, not sure I want to deal with cutting thin pieces of wood...so I would love to hear other ideas-thanks!

What can I do next?

You could use cardboard and wear it like a sandwich board...
Either large cardboard boxes broken down or maybe buy display board (the thick poster board).
Maybe spray paint the cardboard a nice light tan balsa color. Then get black fabric and cut out the letters and point values and glue them onto the painted cardboard. Attach the two pieces of cardboard (front piece with the black letters and back piece plain) with shoulder straps (use ribbon or yarn or something similarly easy to work with) and you're done.

Sounds cute. What word are you planning on being?

I would dress in black head to toe. Then get large squares of tan thick felt. Also get black felt. Cut the letters out of the black felt and glue to the tan felt. Safety pin onto the front of your black shirt. This way you can move around and sit and such.

You could use card stock paper. They sell it at Hobby Lobby in the art area in big sheets. They have plastic cardboard too. I have used that for many crafts. You simply cut it with a little sharp knife.

You could always paint it on the felt too.

I think you should see how many people want to do this then decide on what letters you want to use buy using a words with friends cheat site. You can put in a bunch of random letters and see how many words they generate. That way you and your friends can randomly have a signal for a certain word and then run together and form it. That would be so fun. If you select just the right ones, up to 12 is really really fun, the words you can form is numerous.

Use cardboard. You can probably get free boxes at the grocery store, Just use black marker. You can make a "sandwich board" - or just tie string and make a necklace with the cardboard dangling in the front.

I would use a cardboard box if I were you. I made my son a die one year out of a square carboard box, it was really cute. If you can find a flattish carboard box to turn yourself into a letter tile, youre good to go.

You could either use poster board or cardboard as a sandwich board.
(Or you could use a thin box. Cut arm holes & cut out the bottom.).

Cover the poster board or boxes w/tan spray paint or material.

Cut black letters out of felt & affix to poster board w/velcro.

What if you use a piece of cardboard or presentation board? Paint or glue on fabric if you don't like the natural color. Depending on whether you use paint, fabric, or the natural color you can paint the letters or use a Sharpie for them. Then poke holes in the top and slip it over your head with yarn or ribbon. You could put another piece of board for your back too and tie them together at the sides and shoulders.

Sounds like fun!

I would use foam, cover it with felt. You can just glue it on. Joanns sells the green foam in perfect square shapes. As for the letters, I would cut the letter out in black felt and glue it on.

I would use foam poster board (dollar tree!) and cover with fabric. Felt seems like a good choice. Then I would paint on the letters.

Depends on how big you want to be. You can be just large pieces of muslin (sew into a square, like an unfilled pillow with holes for arms, legs and neck) with letters printed on one side and when you get together, hold your arms out to form the squares (put your hands out the corners and make it long enough to cover your knees). Or you can get poster board, paint it (or use wood colored scrapbook paper) and wear the letters like sandwich boards. Bonus - spell something hard or funny.

cardboard, poster board or foam from the fabric/craft store. Use large stenciled letters or print something really super-large off the computer. Buy numbers (for the letter square value) in a smaller size than the letter.

Sanwich board type deal sounds super cool.

Thin pressboard really thin plywood-- type wood could be bought at a big box hardware store and i think they will cut it to the dimensions you want. then drill holes and use your sharpie or paintbrush.
