Hairloss After Pregnancy

Please help! I am losing my hair. I know it is normal to lose some hair post pregnancy but my hairline is receding from it!! I am taking prenatal vitamins again to hope it will help me grow back my hair. Any suggestions to get my hair to stop falling out and grow back??

What can I do next?

I don't know if this has anything to do with what is going on with you. I lost alot of hair due to a thyroid problem. I had hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) Once they stabilized my thyroid my hair eventually got better. Detecting a thyroid problem can be done by a simple blood test but the doctors don't always think of it. It took them awhile to figure it out with me. Also lost hair when my hormones were out of whack.

I lost ALOT of hair after each of my pregnancy's. I never got a receding hairline, but it was coming out in clumps. My family and friends were always picking hair of my shirts. It started a little while I was pregnant, but got extremely worse for about 6 months after I had given birth. You really should have your thyroid tested to see what your post pregnancy hormones are at. I also found that by using Pantene hair shampoo and conditioner helped out a lot. I used Pantene because my friends Mom was loosing her hair and she swears Pantene helped, so I used it and it did help. I‘m not sure if its really true, but it did work and at the rate me hair was falling out I was going to try anything. You also need to try to eat more protein. It might be worth giving your Dr a call and seeing what he/she has to say.

Have you had your thyroid tested? If so, ask for the numbers. If your TSH is above 3, you may have hypothyroidism and need thyroid hormones. A great site with tons of info is http://www.thyroid-info.com/ Hypothyroidism can definitely cause hair loss - it did for me.

See your doctor. I lost quite a bit of hair post-partum and know several women that did, too. However, I didn't hear of any of them actually getting a receding hairline from it. It's probably normal and you'll return to "baseline" once the horomones level out, but call your doctor just in case.

Oh, the infamous hair loss. I hear it is different for all mommies. My hair loss was very severe and it did set my hairline back after both my pregnanices. Actually my youngest is 15 months old and I am just getting it back to my normal length. Hang in there, mine stopped falling out at close to 7 mths.

I am currently pregnant with my 4th child. I didn't lose any hair with the 1st or 2nd, but I lost a significant amount of hair with the 3rd. I started using a medicated shampoo which stopped the hair loss and it is still in the process of growing back in. I have chemically treated hair, so I use the Rogaine shampoo for chemically treated hair. Nioxin also works well. I do have long hair, so I still continue to use a very good moisturizing conditioner from the salon. I was petrified when it started falling out because I didn't know when it would end, but when I started using the medicated shampoo I noticed a significant decrease in the loss of hair. Good luck!

I just went through the same thing and i went to the doctors and had some blood taken and come to find out i had low iron (anemia). That also can cause excessive hair loss and you may even notice a few small bald patches on your head if you look throughout your hair. I would definately get some blood drawn. Pregnancy really causes alot of hormonal changes in your body. My hair is now grown in. Good luck and happy motherhood.

God bless,
T.
