Hair Loss After Having Twins
Hello all I have a question has anyone experienced losing hair after having their kids? I just had my first period after having twins and my hair started to fall out about a week before my period and is still coming out. Now when I say falling out I don't mean big clumps but when I run my hands through my hair there are quite a few strands. Also when I take a shower there is hair in the drain more so than usual. And it is not letting up. I mean I use a pic with my hair when out of the shower and there is a lot of hair in it then later when my hair dries I will pull any lose strands out and there is a lot. Just wondering when this stops and if anyone else has experienced it. Are there any shampoos I should try that are more gentle perhaps?

Hi L.,
Yes this is normal. It happened to me after both of my pregnancies. Don't worry about it. There is not much you can do. My hair started to grow back in after a few months of falling out.
Good luck.

This is completely normal. My daughter is 7 months old now and I have new hair growth coming in where I lost hair around 3 1/2 months after having her. I actually made an appointment to see a doctor about it because I was losing so much hair, but then I canceled the appointment when I read on babycenter.com that this was normal. Don't worry, you will stop shedding eventually!

I had the same thing happen after having my kids. I think its normal and I think you don't lose as much hair when you are pregnant because of all of the hormones. It will stop after a while and you won't go bald. It you are concerned ask your doctor about it.

Yes, and every mother I know has experienced hair loss. Though I thought it would happen right after delivery. It didn't happen for several months and it lasted probably two months. I don't know of anything you can do. It happens because you loose less hair when you are pregnant. So it's kind of making up for lost time. Don't worry, it will stop.

Hello L.,
I lost my hair after having my son a few years ago and was told by both my family doctor and OBGYN doctor that this is normal. That during the pregnancy that hair stays in a cyle of growing hair and that after the pregnancy that hair goes into a cycle of losing the hair. I was practically bald on the sides of my head and this lasted for about 2-3 months. Then the hair started to grow back... slowly but surely. I have friends who have also lost their hair and their wasn't anything we could to about it since it's a cyle the hair does. Know you're not alone.

I too have twin girls...they are 4 1/2 months old and my hair is falling out A LOT too. I had the same problem during my pregnancy and my OB said it was normal. He also told me that it would fall out afterward too. I truly believe I should be bald! While I do not have any helpful advice for you, I wish you luck with your twins!! If you're in the Grove City area, we should get our girls together sometime!!

This is totally normal. You are shedding all the hair that wasn't shedding when you were pregnant. It will stop within a few months.
It happened to me following both pregnancies, not immediately after birth, but a few months following. I don't believe it has anything to do with your period returning, as mine didn't return until my first was 10 months old and my second was 9 months old.

You won't go bald!! This is very normal and just a part of the hormonal changes in your body. Soon, you'll start to notice little sprouts of hair that stick straight up on your head and you'll probably think that your hair is breaking off. It's not. I asked my hairdresser and she said all the little sprouts were exactly that....new hair coming in....just like a baby. Two years later, my hair still seems to come out much more than it ever did, but overall it is unnoticeable. Relax, once your hormones get back to somewhat normal, it'll stop coming out so much. :)

This is pretty normal. Mine did this after both of my pregnancies. I don't think changing shampoos will help - it will get better over time though. I'm pretty sure it's one of the hormonal side effects.

Hi L.!
My hair fell out for 6 months after my baby! I thought it would seriously never stop, but it did and I am back to normal now! :)
