Hi there-

My 2 year old girl has a mop of hair that needs to be cut. Any suggestions on a kids salon or a salon that does well with kids. She's pretty calm, but I wanted to make it fun and she sometimes is shy around strangers. Anyone tried Cookie Cutters in McHenry?

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I ended up going to Cool cuts for Kids in Algonquin. I'm glad I went there. She had a meltdown when the stylist put the cape on her and it took about 15 minutes of calming and playing to get her back in the firetruck! I was glad to be in a place meant for kids and her hair looks great. Thanks again!

The Clip Joynt in downtown Crystal Lake is great for kids. They have the cars and firetrucks for them to sit on and movies to watch to keep them distracted. The stylists are really nice too! I think the cuts are around $15.

Hello,
I have gone to Cookie Cutters in McHenry twice, the kids seem to like it, but they cut my sons hair too short. And they are a little expensive for a kids hair cut. I now go to Salon Unique in McHenry which is not set up for kids, but he does fine and they did a great cut. I have worked with Judy and Jessica. By the way, my son is 4 and mildly autistic.

I used to go to Cool Cuts in Algonquin Commons, and they were good but pricey. My son loves watching the DVDs while he goes. I just switched last week actually to a girl named Renee at the Hair Cuttery in LITH off of Randall and Miller and she is so awesome. I can't say enough good things about how great she was with my son. My son was upset about going to some place without videos, so he was crying. She totally understood and was doing her best to calm him down. He also doesn't care for the trimmers or things with louder noises, and she was cool with that too. She really helped him feel comfortable and enjoy the exerience. The cut was pretty good as well and was only $10.

Have you tried Cool Cuts 4 Kids in Algonquin Commons? Each child picks out a DVD to watch during their haircut. There are legos, movies, video games to play while waiting. I have even gotten a cut there, it's the only place I can go without needing a sitter. Also, they don't do chemical processes there (color, perms, etc) so no toxic air for the little ones.

They have a normal side, and a smaller side just for kids that has race car seats, carousel horses... It's a little bit older. They do not take appointments, it's all walk-in. I usually find that if you call first you can get an idea if there are a lot of people waiting, or to just go as soon as they open. There are a handful of stylists. I forget how much, I haven't gone in a while.

Yes I have tried it. If you just walk in you may have to wait because sometimes they only have 1 stylist working. It is more expensive then most places but the kids do love it and sit well for haircuts. Good luck!

I know there are is one place on Algonquin Rd west of Randall Rd in a little strip mall on the left. Sorry I don't know the name. There is also another in Algonquin Commons by Old Navy in one of the small strip malls in front. Don't know the name either. We haven't gone for a haircut yet even though my 2 1/2 yr old DD has hair down her back. We need to go soon too.
