Gum on Shirt

How do I get chewing gum off a shirt? It's been through the wash and dryer so it's pretty stuck on. I've tried picking it off, Oxyclean and soaking it but there's still "gummy" residue. I know peanut butter is good for gum in hair but what about fabric?

What can I do next?

use cooking oil to get it out and then put some shampoo on the spot before you wash it to get the oil out. You might have to do it a couple of times.

S.,

Freeze the shirt and the gummy aspect goes away. Then, you should be able to pick it off. Vegetable oil or peanut butter or Goo Gone can also help fix the shirt.

Best wishes,

I have three children; a girl age 17 and two boys ages 11 and 13. I have finally found something that will get out what ever my boys can dish out. And it is inexpensive. It is called M-30 and I got it at The Dollar General. It is like a salve and I rub it on the stain working it into the material. Then wash it like normal. This had gotten out dried blood, grass stains that were a week old, ground in dirt on beige denim shorts, old grease stains out of carpet, dried on baby spit up, ketchup, and Spagehtti-O's. I recently found a concentrated liquid that you have to mix with water and put it into your own spray bottle or bucket. This stuff got off more gunk then bleach water, orange cleaner or all purpose cleaner. I was amazed at everything that this cleaner (both types) gets out. I recommend this to anyone that has children or pets.

Try rubbing an ice cube over it. That is what I have used in the past and it seems to work pretty well!

put the shirt in the freezer. The gum will harden and you can get it right off! :)

You could try this:
-put soap/stain remover on the spot
-sprinkle it with some salt
-rub/scrape the gum with a blunt knife or your fingernails
-throw in the washing machine
The salt works on the stain much like a face scrub works on the dry skin on your face
Good luck! This happens to me all the time too!

If you put peanut butter on the fabric, it may help break down the gum. However, you may end up with an oil stain on the fabric.

I would try putting it in the freezer. Perhaps by hardening the gum you can then scrape it off.

I heard to use peanut butter on gum on clothes. I never tried it, but I did hear that is the trick for fabric as well. Good luck!

Put the whole shirt in the freezer and let it freeze over night. In the morning the gum should chip off. You may need to keep re-freezing depending on how much there is. You can also use ice to chill and help touch up spots.
