Grout Doctor or Grout Medic

Hi there,

You're all so wonderful when it comes to advice and suggestions so I thought I would ask for help. We have a house full of tile (two bedrooms have carpet) and are looking into having the grout cleaned or possibly replaced. We made a HUGE mistake when we had the tile installed and asked for light colored grout. OH MY, should have gone darker. So now we're looking into either having it cleaned and sealed or go darker and sealed. Does anyone have any experience with either the Grout Doctor or Grout Medic? How about any experience with anyone that can clean and replace grout and possibly redo a bathroom? I'm looking forward to reading what you have to say.

Thanks in advance and have a beautiful day!

M.

I used Grout Dr. 4 years ago on new tile. It didn't last long. It wasn't worth the money I shelled out for sealant. I could've done it myself and had the same results. I was NOT impressed. I tried getting them to fix it and calls were not returned.

I don't know how cost effective or easy it is but I would look into a darker grout color with a sealant.

We had Stanley Steemer come out but they didn't seal it the first time, lasted about 4 months. about a month ago we had them come again but this time they sealed it, still looks OK but don't know how long it'll last.

It lasted about 4 months, as I see I wrote this about 5 months ago. Just not sure what to do now as it needs to be cleaned again.

I had the GD come to our house to replace cracking grout in our shower. Within three months, the grout was cracking again and we were having the same issues. As another reader, the GD did not return my calls until I started to leave somewhat angry/rude messages at the main office. He advised that we have a problem with our shower if it keeps cracking and there was nothing we could do about it. I have DAP caulk to recaulk the areas that are cracking and that seems to hold for a bit, but it takes time to clean and recaulk especially since you have to keep the shower clean/dry for at least three to four days for it to cure properly.

I have yet to find a good solution, but right now I am just resolved to cleaning, scraping and recaulking.

Good luck!

Haven't tried either of those but we had our tile cleaned by Marton's Carpet Care from HEB area and he did a great job. VERY reasonably priced! As far as sealing the grout, it keeps the dirt from settling into the grout but only keeps it as "clean looking" as you do, it will still need professional cleaning occasionally. Most people I know that have sealed their grout aren't all that thrilled with it. I would see about a grout dyeing process before you consider completely replacing the grout.
