Grocery Cart Covers
Does anyone know how to put those grocery cart covers over the toddler seat on a cart? I tried to put one on yesterday and I felt silly, but couldn't figure it out. Where does the safety strap go, on the outside, through the real cart, just around the baby? I have the ABC, blue cover. Are the stripes supposed to be the part the baby sits in? Help!

I went to the grocery store the other day and tried the cover again! It was so easy and he loved it! Thank you for your help.

S.,
The one i had, I layed it over the seat in the shopping cart, lining up the holes for the legs on the cover with the holes on hte cart, print side up (so baby sits in the print). Then with mine the strap went through the cart from behind where the baby's back would be and then there was holes in the cover for the straps to come through and wrap around baby. So when they were strapped in they were strapped to the back of the seat. Hope that is helpful. J.

They are for the toddler part of the grocery cart, not the infant seat. I've never seen them for the infant parts of a grocery cart.
When my son was that small, I just took the carseat out of the car and put that in the cart.
Good luck.

Hi S., I have the same one and your problem was the exact reason why it took me so long to use it. the stripes face downward. also, put the back of it on first then pull the rest of it over the front making sure that the holes for the legs line up with the cart. i usually put my son in and then strap everything. the long strap will go through the hole, around your child and back through to clip.
i felt silly, too, but once you get the hang of it, it goes faster. i liked it when my son was an infant, since the seats are so big. it helped stabilize him better. now that he is a toddler, it is more of a hassle and he does better with just the seat. they are also nice for the high chairs at restaurants. i think i used it more for interest and safety rather than to ward off germs. hope this helps. It sounds like you have the same one i have- it isn't meant to go over the infant seat that is attached to the cart- only the cart itself. the stripes go on the inside, and the strap is supposed to go around the baby, but i think they need to be able to sut up on their own. If your baby is young enough to still be in a rear facing seat, it will snap right into the shopping cart so you won't need the cover until you are taking baby out of the car seat. My son (who i call houdini) figured out pretty quickly that that strap was only around him, and if he stood up, the entire cover just came with him- hopefully you will have better luck!

I had t laugh when I read your post because when my son was a baby--I just KNEW I wouldn;t be able to figure those out! LOL I would just wipe the cart handles down etc with a wipey (I used to bring my own before it became P.C. for stores to have them available. If your baby is a real "licker" etc, you could always just stash a small hand towel in your purse and drape it over the handle, too. Good luck!

Personally, I wouldn't even bother. I bought one cause I am a germ-a-phob and the darn cover was more of a pain than it was worth. Most of the grocery stores have sanitary wipes at the enterance of the store you can wipe the cart with. I gave it to a friend and only used it 3x due to the complications of trying to cover the cart. Gee what did our Moms do bak in the 60's when there were no cart covers? I am so surprised we survived! :0) Good luck

Is yours a "floppy seat?" They are the ones that fold inside themselves to make a bag. The bag carry straps go at the front where you push - over the handle bar. Then the rest just stretches to cover the entire seat area (regular child seat - not the infant reclined seat). That should position the buckle straps at the back. There are slats in the fabric to allow you to slide them through the seat slats and then back through the floppy seat and around your child to securely hold your child to the cart instead of just in the removeable cover. Hope that helps...
