Great Travel Toys?

My husband and I are planning an out of state family trip in the next two weeks. With 21 month old triplets, what would normally be a 5 1/2 hour trip will most likely take even longer (bathroom/diaper stops & feedings) depending on how we time it. I don't want to have to bring a huge amout of toys because we'll be packed to the gills and I definitely don't want to brings toys with pieces that can get lost. We do have a DVD player in the car but I was wondering what kinds of toys, in your opinion/experience, work well for travel?

What can I do next?

I just bought my 22 month old a little lap desk thing from a Michael's craft store for $7. We used it today on a 3 hour trip, and it was great! He colored forever, but I imagine it would be good for all sorts of things...magnetic puzzles, colorforms, etc. It has storage areas on the sides to keep the stuff handy, too. For 7 bucks, you can't beat it! Have a great trip, and good luck!

We take DD's doodle board with us, she loes it. the pen is attached so it won't fall on the floor and no mess! I also take sticker books with us, no mess either, you can always peel a sticker off something.

they have loads of aqaudoodle pads that you simply color with water and it dries.......also a doodle pad. Both great toys. Buy them a couple new movies too, ones that havent seen before.

My kids love the doodle pros with the pencil attached so you don't have to keep turning around to pick things up! Also, they love flash cards with pictures on them and magnetic puzzles. We also brought plenty of books and DVD's. We also brought some of their favorite CD's to listen to. We just got back from a road trip to Florida with 3 yr. old twins and they loved every minute of it. Have fun!!!
