Grandson - Mount Carmel,IL

What to do with a 15 year old grandson. He comes to our hometown each year to visit his dad. He lives in Florida. I feel a little lost. He loves video games and plays them with my 17 year old son. Any suggestions. I am a SAHM with my own business so have the freedom to do whatever.

What can I do next?

Thanks to you all if I did not send a personal thanks. Everything worked out well. We spent a day with my nephew and his family, my son and grandson included and we all had a great day just visiting. I think I forget what great guys I have in my life. Thanks again everyone.

My teenage nephews like playing laser tag (there are some really cool outside ones near Indy where you run around playing wargames in the woods), playing pool and racing go-karts (there are several places in/near Indy to do go-karts). In the summer they like going to the waterpark in Central Park in Carmel.

They also love going to Ice games and Indians games.

Why not ask him what he wants to do? Take him to movies (or rent some), or let him go with your 17yo. Let them play video games. I have a 15 yo son and these days, when we go to visit my mom he just sits in a room and watches movies or plays video games. Mom takes him to movies and out to eat. A great place to take them out to eat is Dave & Busters. It's like Chuck E Cheese for grown ups.

If he is interested in sports and you have any teams in the area you might consider going to a sports event. Check out what movies are in the area and remember what he might be interested in seeing. Video games are great, but unfortunately we are raising a generation of anti-social people who spend their "play time", "down time", in front of a computer or with a game boy type thing in their hands. What happened to ping pong, board games, cards, etc., which required interaction and conversations with live people? Take him golfing, etc.

Hi S.,

I read your little "about me" thing, and I saw that you like shooting pool. I think that would be a totally awesome thing to do with your grandson. Take him to a pool hall for families. We had one called Jamaica Joe's where I grew up and there was no alcohol served there. Teach him how to play. Take your son along so he will feel more at ease. There are places like Dave and Buster's, too.

It also said you like to work with a charitable organization. I would get him involved with you one time when he is visiting.

I understand being kind of lost, because you don't have a day to day "I know what you like" kind of relationship like you would if he lived in the same town. Both of these activities would give you time to talk and touch base, and you would also be opening yourself up to him and giving him a genuine piece of yourself in the bargain.

Hope this helps,

L.

Movies, Video Games, Bowling That's all my kids wanted to do from 14 to 21. Ask him what he likes to do at home Maybe to a football game??
Good luck

Why don't you ask him? Or ask your 17 yo. Are you looking to entertain him? Is a hockey game too expensive. Take to see the zoo, go bowling or just spend time with him doing something he likes.
