My oldest, who is 3 1/2 started to become intersted in showers around 3. When he's 'too busy' to take a bath or just too tired..he prefers the shower.

My kids have both showered with my husband when they were little (and we were in a hurry), but my five year old, who just started kindergarten, has started taking showers on school days. If he has time, he prefers a bath.

Personally, I was 8 and I feel that was late. My friends all started taking showers at 5 or 6. Of course it all depends on the child I think. My daughter is nearly 5 and I think she would be too scared to shower instead of bathe.

Based on the other responses, my kids are really late to start showering. My older son was probably 9 or 10. He's 13 now, and I can't really remember for sure. My 10-year-old still bathes because he likes the feel of soaking in the warm water. Both of my boys are very short for their ages so that might be part of it, but we have one of those hand held shower heads, which helps. I stick the younger boy in the shower sometimes when we are in a hurry or something.

My son is 3-1/2 and he takes showers once or twice a week and baths once or twice a week. He has been doing this for about 6 months to a year now. He takes showers with us once in a while if we are in a hurry and he really needs one, otherwise he also takes showers on his own, of coarse I am right their and still have to wash him up and rinse him off, but he enjoys the shower. He used to be afraid of it and then one day he wasn't anymore.

So I think it all depends on you and your children. I am not sure when he will be able to take showers on his own, but my guess if not until 8 or so, I may be off on that, but that is just me guessing.

My 7 year-old daughter still prefers baths, and playing with toys while in there :) I think she gets cleaner sitting in the bath than taking a shower. She will shower sometimes because we are in a hurry, or she'll decide to join me when I'm in the shower. We have no issues with nakedness in our household.

She's taken showers at the YMCA before/after swimming since she was 6 months old, so she's had a chance to get used to them.

Both of my sons started taking showers at the end of kindergarten--about 6 1/2 years old. Given the choice, my 7 year old would probably choose a bath, but shower's are so much quicker!

I started my children in showers with me at the age of about so2.. it was just as easy to pop them in the shower with me and let them get used to it. While that method doesn't appeal to everyone both of my kid were showering alone by the time they were 4 or 5. Some people have an issue with having their children seeing them naked at an early age so if that is the case I would slowly introduce them at 5 or 6 alternating them between showers and baths until you can get them off baths all together.

My son was earlier than the girls, maybe 4 or 5. Girls 7 and now our 5 year old pretty consistently showers.
