I always did one goody bag. I usually put a few pieces of candy and I mean a few because I realize most parents don't want their kids having all that sugar. Then I went by party city and they usually have great little "toy" items for a goody bag. I let my twin girls pick those out. If I remember correctly they picked out lip gloss, bubbles, and a few other odds and ends. I did goody bags for the girls and goody bags for the boys since it was "co-ed".

As the other commenters have said, 1 bag is plenty. As for the trinkety gift bags as a 1st line 'Thank You for coming' but not to replace a Thank You card (just my opinion but I know not everyone agrees in this) I have started to skip on the gift bag completely and instead offer $5 gift cards to Cold Stone Creamery after my daughter came home from a friend's b-day party with one. It's been a HUGE hit and definitely gets used so I don't feel like I'm wasting money on trinkety plastic items! Of course, this idea could get expensive depending on the number of children at the party. Another idea would be to have a craft or simple project that goes along with your theme as the take home item. There's lots of ideas out there but being a parent from both sides of the birthday party audience (both the host and the guest) I encourage you to think outside the gift bag. :-)

Oh my goodness, one bag per guest is definitely enough!! It's always best to put one "nice" item in the bag with a few small candy bars then a bunch of those little cheap toys that parents hate and throw in the garbage after a day.
If they are all girls (the guests), then I would buy a nice necklace or piece of jewelry or even a Polly Pocket doll or other small doll and throw in some candy. Those Squinkies are really popular now...you could buy a set of those and just put a couple in each bag. Have fun at the party!

On bag is fine I would think. I have found the best things to put in treat bags are juice boxes and those unfrozen ice pops. The daycare my son goes to they do treat bags for every kids birthday and I have so many of those stupid little toys. Maybe get some kind of activity book and crayons or some flash cards from the $ store. My son loves stickers and those glow sticks or braclets. Just a few ideas. But I do like the idea for a gift card for ice cream that another mom said below.

Hi!
I would only do 1 goody bag for the party attendees and let each of your daughters pick out 1 item to include. If your party has a theme, try to pick something related to that theme. I would limit the amount of candy or treats in the bags to 1-3 things (how about a rice krispie treat or a bag of fun fruits? How about some things that might be useful - cute note pads and colored ink pens? pocket tissues with a character on them? Have fun at the party!

1 bag for each guest.. we did a tootsie rolls, then 3 silly band in each bag, pencil and stickers which we bought at the dollar store.. The silly bands were the biggest hit!

one bag per guest. 3 or 4 small toys or jewelry items like silly bands and then a few treats. we have done candy but also rice crispy bars, granola bars, cheese crackers, or anything else that you can buy in the individual serving size. it doesn't all have to be candy. you can do the snack items too and the parents might appreciate that.

I agree that one bag is generous and I doubt anyone would expect two. Go with items that match your theme. For my son's second birthday, our theme was music and we had a visit from Elmo. For his goodie bags, I included a tambourine or maracas, bubbles in a guitar shaped container, an Elmo themed coloring book and stickers, and a couple board books that were sesame street themed from the $1 section of Target. I was recently at a birthday party of twins with a hawaiian theme.....their goodie bag included a notebook in the shape of flip flops, sunglasses etc. Also, I know some folks are skipping goody bags and doing a craft/project during the party the guest then takes it home as their favor. Examples are a decorated picture frame, or beaded bracelet. That may be a cute idea as well. Have a fun party :-)

I agree - one bag or mini-gift per guest. I have had the most success with an activity (that they can even do at the party if they want)...a coloring book and crayons, or a marker and notebook/journal, etc.

One bag. Like the other moms, I really don't like it when my kids bring home goody bags filled with little plastic toys and lots of candy. I try to limit the treats to fruit snacks or maybe one candy item and then a larger gift. I have boys, but over the years I've done wooden craft kits, a baseball, baseball cards and small ($4-5) Lego kits. This year's bag for one son's party included a funky straw cup. I assume little girls would like some kind of craft kit. I got rave reviews the year I put in the small Lego kits.

Why even do a goody bag is what I say. I feel like the tradition of goody bags is ridiculous. The party is for the birthday kid(s), not the guests. The way that I got out of giving goody bags is by having the kids/guests do some sort of project and that is their gift. For example, when my b/g twins turned 5 in September and had their first ever birthday party with friends, we had each kid decorate a foam frame with foam stickers. During the party, we took a photo of each kid with both of my kids. We kept the frame they created and mailed it to them along with the photo that was taken and a thank you card. I feel like that was plenty. Plus, what kid doesn't love getting mail and a photo with them in it?

One bag each is plenty. Recently for goody bags at my 7 year old daughter's birthday we did a pack of silly bandz (bought at Michael's in one of their discount bins). A couple of lollipops and a glow bracelet.

Other ideas... glitter paint, stickers, cute note pad w/ pen. If you go to Michael's they will have lots of different inexpensive things to choose from. They always have coupons in the Sunday State Journal as well.
