Good Toy for 2 Year Old

How about getting him a "Leapster"? Both my kids, at this age, loved theirs, and still do at their ages. It grows with the child and is educational.

Or, how about putting him in preschool, just part-time? Thereby, you will have some time to yourself to do what you need to do, with one less child there at home with you. When I had my 2nd child, my eldest child, my daughter, started preschool. Granted, she was 3 almost 4 years old at the time, but she LOVED it! It gave her socialization, and making "friends" and being educationally stimulated. She REALLY loved "her" time there and looked forward to it.

Or, what some Moms do, is have a part-time "babysitter" IN their home. Thereby, YOU can do your "work" and what have you. That is another alternative. My friend did that, since she works at home, and this option REALLY worked for her, and her child.

At this age of 2 years old, they really benefit from other sources of "socialization" and "educational" formats too. They are budding in changing development... that a younger sibling can't always fulfill in them. Its normal.

My two year old son LOVES cars. He plays with them anytime we are at home. He loves to just line them up in rows and drive them around the house. He can sit quietly and play with them by himself while I'm doing work on the computer or cleaning up around the house. If he has 5-10 little cars, he's in heaven.

An hour is a pretty long time to expect a two year old to entertain himself though. My son usually comes to me after 10-20 minutes and asks me to play with him (with the cars), at least for a few minutes. Then I can usually go back to doing something else for a little while.

I think the Leapster that the previous poster mentioned might work too. I've never tried anything like that.

Another thing to try would be setting up a work station similar to your own. Give him a little table (call it a desk), with crayons, coloring books, books to read, etc. Maybe he can play school while you are doing your work.

my boys loved trains. we got a train table off of Craig list for very cheap with some tracks and trains. you can find them at target or even second hand. the boys played with these together because there was no chocking hazard. my older son liked putting together the track and my baby loved pushing the trains on it.
they also loved the play school little people with the barn and the airplane pretending to make a city. the little people or animals i have bought on e-bay- a huge box for super cheap. i just run them through the dishwasher after i get them to make sure they are clean and sanitized.
a good toy that your older son might like now and can grow into is legos. i like the mid size Duplo is what i think they call them. all my kids love these and can do them for hours! My older son 7yrs now uses the very small ones but it is amazing to see what he can make. they love building of course but they also love looking at the planning books that come with the set.

boy toys are a lot of fun the one tip i have is don't spend a lot of money on things you are not sure they will like. try to borrow or get second hand the things you want to try out. it is a huge bummer to spend a lot of money on something they really could care less about.

How about some art activities? Right now, my almost-2-year-old can spend about 30 minutes each with Play-Doh and doodling with markers or crayons. I put him in his booster chair and he "sits" at the table with me while I'm on my computer (this way I can still sort of keep an eye on him in case he tries to eat his art supplies).

He also loves playing with his building blocks. Right now he still has the large pieces so he can build easily without getting too frustrated.
