My elementary aged son wears through his shoes faster than he outgrows them. Can you please let me know of a sturdy brand of shoes that will last through some rough and tough play?

What can I do next?

I stopped buying Stride Rite when they changed their policy to replace worn-out shoes. There's were so much more expensive than other places' shoes and they always replaced shoes if they wore out before you child outgrew them. Then I bought a pair of leather sandals and they broke the SECOND time my son wore them. The manager wouldn't replace them or give me my money back and she was nasty about it. I had just bought them two weeks before. That was IT for me and Stride Rite.

I agree with the poster who mentions New Balance and Nike.

Our DS, who is not yet 3, sometimes drags the toes of his feet along the ground when riding his trike, or when on the swings. This causes quick wear to his shoes. We are working on getting him to be gentler on his shoes.

If you notice a particular pattern about the hard wear, maybe you can speak with your boy and get him to be a bit gentler on them.

Good luck to you and yours,

Keens-sandles hold up well for the summer. Pricey $50.00 but they hold up.

Stride Rite is something that we always wore in my house. It was always are first shoes.

Shoes last about 6 months for my kids.. then they out grow them. Most have been Stride Right or Keens.

Geox have worn really, really well. I usually pick those up lightly used at a resale shop. They are still rather expensive for used, but they wear really well.

My son also likes the Merrill moccasins (for the pull-on factor).... those were good too.

I bought my son a pair of stride rite shoes halfway through kindergarten. I bought them a little big then. He is about to start second grade and still wears those shoes. They still look in decent shape and have no tears or loose strings. I remember cringing at the $40 price tag, but I'll be back for more, no doubt.

Keens wear well and they are my sons favorite shoes. I have always loved stride rite shoes for all three of my kids too. I just bought him a pair of Merrill shoes for this school year so we'll see how they hold up.

How old is he? If he likes skater styles, Supras hold up very well and Zumiez has a great sale going on now. Normally I would never considering buying these for my younger kids (my teenager buys his own or gets them as his birthday or Christmas gift) but for $35 they were a steal.

New Balance, Geox and Stride Rite have all worked well for my boys.

New Balance and Nike have held up best for my kiddos.
Asics (which I love for me) and all the Vans or converse we've had have fallen apart pretty quickly.

We mainly do sneakers, no dress shoes. Those are used so rarely they are outgrown before they wear out.

Vans always held up the best for us. But since my kids do not like those types of shoes, new balance is good too.
