Good Samaritan Vs. St. Joseph's Hospital?
I am due to deliver my second child in December, and my doctor delivers at either Good Sam or St. Joe's. What have people's experiences been? According to my doctor, they're the same, except one of them has better parking.
I had a horrible experience with an unwanted inducement and subsequent C-section last time, and bad experiences with nurses and staff that didn't listen and were rude and unhelpful. I delivered at Banner Thunderbird before. I am trying for a natural VBAC this time. What have your experiences been at St. Joseph's and Good Samaritan?
Thank you!

Both of my children were delivered at St. Joe's. I had a wonderful time both experiences. I don't know any thing about Good Sam, but Joe's was awesome! Great staff....great rooms....just an all around fantastic experience. I had a complicated first delivery and if it had not been for the quick thinking staff I would have probably died. St. Joes has the complete package.

I delivered triplets at Good sam, with Dr Elliot, via CSection. Good sam is the way to go. Labor and Delivery is one of the areas of the hospital that has been remodeled recently, and I love the staff. Cannot think of a bad experience there.

I had a C-section at Good Sam and they were wonderful. Friendly staff who took great care of us. Strong security for parents/child, Phx Children's on site, great cafeteria. Excellent care for us, my husband was able to stay in the room, very clean, we were there for a week and it was a very good experience. Good luck!

Hi J.,
Personally, i had a horrible experience at Good Sam's. The nurses in the the labor and delivery were good, however the after care was horrible. I had a C-Section and when i got to my room i vomited on myself and sheets, i was there 2 days and the nurses never changed my sheets after asking over and over. I have always heard great things about St. Joes.
Good luck!!

Hi J.-
I delivered at Good Sam two and a half years ago. I ended up in the hospital a week before delivery due to complications and had my daughter one month early. Am I glad I was at Good Sam! It is a no frills hospital, no cushy rooms, fancy food, etc., but as far as care goes, I feel that I got the best. The nurses and doctors took great care of me during my stay and they took very good care of my daughter once she was born. I was also comforted by the fact that they have one of the best NICU's in the country as part of their facility. I didn't need to use it, but it sure was nice to know that it was there in case we did.
I don't know much about St. Joe's except that my youngest brother was air evacuated from Prescott to St. Joe's back in the early 70's and they saved his life. I have never heard anything bad about the hospital. It may be stellar as well.
All I can do is tell you from personal experience, that the care at Good Sam is superb!
Good luck in your decision making and with your delivery.

I personally had a horrible experience at saint joe's. I had the choice of good sam or saint joes & had heard such good things about saint joe's. I would never go there again and was extremely dissapointed in the staff and procedures that occured to me while I was there. If you want more info, you can message me.

I delievered at St. Joseph's about over 4 years ago and for the most part it was a good expierence. One thing to consider is that it is a Catholic Hospital so sometimes things get complicated with what doctors can and can't do from what I was told. Like if you want to have your tubes tide while they are doing the C-section the doctor can't do that unless it is medically needed. I had really great nurses in labor and delivery but the nurses afterwards were not as great. Anyway I think you should take a tour of both hospitials if you have the time but my personal opinion would be for Good Sam. My sister in law delivered there and she said she really liked it.

I had a c-section at Good Sam and loved the staff. We were there 3 days and the nurses were wonderful. They were wonderful with my daughter and provided a very high level of care for both of us. I highly recommend Good Sam.
Good luck and congrats.

I never delivered at Good Sam But I did have a good experience at the ST Joe's NICU. My daughter was delivered at Arrowhead and had complications. They told me they were going to have to send her to another hospital that could take care of her problems and they sent us to St Joes. But Like someone said before Good Sam now has the PCH NICU there and it is brand new so they are supposed to be state of the art (the Architectural firm I work for designed and oversaw the construction, but we have also done work for SJH)
