I am new to the area, and my husband and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary next week. I am looking to find a nice restaurant that is quiet, has great food and ambiance, and is well-recommended. Any suggestions? We live in Olathe, but I don't mind going to KC, Overland Park, etc. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi C.,

If you don't mind spending (because it is expensive) I like Piropos in Weston area.....It is great!
In a more modest range I like Bravo for everyday casual fun and you can also dine outside under the stars...In 119th and Nall?
Ther eis also an other one in Plaza I believe or Cheese cake factory there too is good.
Have a wonderfull time!

We love Melbee's in Mission on Johnson Drive, it's quiet and they have a live pianist on the weekends. It's a little pricey but worth it.

I am partial to J Alexander's or J Gilberts off Metcalf- both have wonderful food and wonderful service. We went to Lydia's last year and they took amazing care of us(I did call ahead and reserve a table so there was no wait and we got a surprise treat since I had mentioned it was our anniv.)-it's a little louder since its open but we went during the week and loved it and were in a corner table which was fun to see all around! Bristol at Town Center is always terrific- and McCormick & Schmidt on the Plaza too!

Oh there are sooo many! In Leawood we like "The Bristol" real well. On the Plaza our favorites are The Capital Grille, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and McCormick & Schmicks. What are your likes and what price range are you looking at? These are $$ - $$$ places. Well worth every penny! Happy Anniversary and enjoy yourselves!

Melting Pot will do the trick. Call for reservations. You'll spend $100 and you'll be there 3 hours, but it's well worth it. All that eating slow causes you to actually visit with your partner! Good bonding time!

Have fun!

My favorites are Bravo's for Italian, the italian wedding soup is the best. I also like Bristol for seafood, both are in Town Center in OP. I also like the Duck Club it is down near crown center, very pricey (we spent around $160 for the two of us) but every table has its own waiter and they have a wonderful all you can eat chocolate bar for dessert. Reservations are required at the duck club and a dress code id enforced and to avoid a 2hr wait reservations at Bravos are highly recommened. Congrats on your anniversary!

If you really want to shell out big bucks and have the best meal of your life. Go to Capitol Grill on the Plaza. But for alot less money and lovely atmosphere and delicious food go to Brio on the plaza. They have an upstairs outdoor patio and it's very nice.

My husband and I would go to Rembrandts for our anniversary. It's on Barry Rd - east of I-29. However, I don't know if they are still open.

The other place that is good is McCormick and Schmicks on the Plaza. Go to MccormickandSchmicks.com to check them out. It's a nice atmosphere and they have great food.

There are so many wonderful places to go in KC! If you want to stay out South, Cafe Casbah is a small, quaint, highly reccomended place. However, I would head downtown/plaza area....much better, more interesting places. To name a few: Seven (Italian, downtown), JJ's (on the plaza, really good), Avenues Bistro (in Brookside),Carmens Cafe (in Brookside) or Zin (downtown)

Avenues Bistro!! Everything is wonderful, we love it there, it is a small place in Brookside, great food, ambiance, the works. If you go there, tell them it is your anniversary, they are good about pulling out all the stops. It is a bit pricey, but soooo worth it.

Here is the website to check out the menu:

my husband and I enjoy Tatsu's in Prairie Village. It is off the beaten path, very upscale, and the atmosphere and food are great! My favorite thing there is the Grand Marnier Souffle. You have to order it at the same time as your meal so that it can be freshly made. Reservations are required there.

Hope this helps! Congrats on 10 years!

I would recommend The Melting Pot down on the Plaza! My husband & I went there & it was great! The best part is they have private dinning rooms- so you are totally alone to dine! It is great! They even took our picture & put it in a little frame for us. I am sure if you call them they can tell you more about it but it was one of the most memorable for us!
Happy Anniversary!

La Bodega downtown is awesome for small plates and tapas. Has a fun and casual atmosphere with great food. If you want the best restaurant in the state, go to Blue Stem off Westport Road. Need a reservation for Blue Stem but the chefs have won the James Beard award and been featured in Food and Wine for top 10 chefs in the country. Absolutely THE BEST!

The Melting Pot on the Plaza. Great Fondue! Yummy desserts. It's very romantic and it requires that you "slow" down and really enjoy your meal.
They have an anniversary package where they will take your photo and give you a frame for it...I think there was a bottle of champagne and roses included in the package also. You need to tell them you want the package at the time of the reservation.
If you've never tried a fondue restaurant....do, it's a neat experience.
Happy Anniversary.

If you like a nice French restaurant I would recommend either Le Fou Frog in the River Market or Cafe Provence in Prairie Village. Both are a little pricy but really worth it for the quality of food and atmosphere. We went to the American restaurant for an anniversary one time and it was really nice - they keep changing chefs and this was awhile back. For Italian, you really can't beat Garozzo's, the original in the River Market in my opinion for atmosphere and food. Other faves - esp for steak would be Ruth's Chris, Capital Grille or Plaza III - all on the plaza. A lot of people love the Melting Pot - I'm just not a fondue person but they do have a nice atmosphere in there.

J Gilbert's is probably my top recommendation. The food is amazing and the ambiance is wonderful. They always do something special for anniversaries, bdays, etc. They have lot's of quiet tables, etc. We always go back there, it's very much worth the money. Another good one is Bonefish in OP. I've also heard good things about CC's City Broiler at 151st and Antioch. As far as in Olathe..not sure of much..they opened up a new Garozzos which is a great Italian place from downtown. The food is very good. It's at 135th and Murlen. Hope this helps..others had some great suggestions as well...

You absolutely must go to The Melting Pot (fondue resturaunt) in downtown KC. My husband and I just went for our 5th in June and it was FABULOUS! Reservations are required, and my husband reserved a private booth (very private and romantic). There were a dozen roses waiting for me on the table (an option they offer to take care of for you) and they took our photo and framed it on our way out. We had great service, top notch food, and it was a lot of fun. Oh, and the Yin and Yang drink was also quite good. Happy Anniversary!
