Good Non-toxic Oven Cleaner

So I looked at my oven over the weekend and YIKES it needs some attention. I do not want to use the harsh, toxic, chemical cleaners that stink up your house but I need something efficient enough to take off burnt food and accumulated grease. Does anyone have any suggestions that they have actually tried that have worked? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Sprinkle it with baking soda and spray white vinegar over it. Let it sit like that for a little while and they scrub the food grime off. Works like a charm for me! If the smell of vinegar bothers you (it bothers me!) you can add some essential oil. I use sweet orange and can hardly smell the vinegar at all. I use the same concoction in my shower and it works fabulous. Best of all, it's non- toxic and cheap!! Hope the helps, happy cleaning :)

Hello!
This is something I have wondered about as well before, so after I read your question, I asked Google.
There were a bunch of returns, but this one looked really interesting http://www.eartheasy.com/live_nontoxic_solutions.htm.
I will be using a bunch of these tips!

The Shaklee paste/scrub is the only one I use. I'm sure you can find someone nearby who sells it.

Hi N.,

Shaklee has a non-toxic organic oven cleaner which also cleans sinks, stainless pans and countertops. It's 7.25 for a jar that lasts 5 to 7 years and it smells like cherries. Let me know if you want to try it. I'm in Rio Rancho/Albuquerque

I have sprinkled baking soda in the oven and then spray it with water. You'll let it dry out and then spray it again. Do this as many times as you feel necessary and then scrape everything out. Once you get the baking soda out, you'll want to wipe down the oven to get rid of the white residue. It works wonderfully!! Good luck!

How old is your oven? It should have a 'self-cleaning' option. Follow the directions on the oven door, usually printed on the side somewhere. Self cleaning does not use any chemicals. You lock the oven door, turn it on, and the oven goes into an extremely high heat setting for a couple of hours. When all done it is nothing but ashes inside. Then wipe clean with moist papertowels, or old rags you're going to throw away.
Happy cleaning!
