I used Kelly Fritz as my midwife. I started out with an OBGYN and he was very nice, but the care and time I got with Kelly was truly unbeatable. I will ALWAYS see Kelly for all my OBGYN needs. She is so compassionate and I never felt rushed or that I was asking a silly question. During most of my appointments, I had to tell her that my time was up and I needed to go. She values educating her patients, and with me being a first time mom, this was very comforting! Unfortunately I had complications, so I needed a doctor to deliver. I am pretty sure she is able to deliver- she may only have priveledges at Olathe Medical Center, but it is definitely worth finding out. Plus Olathe Medical Center has an amazing birth center!! Kelly is at Arbor Creek OBGYN in Olathe. The phone number is ###-###-####. She is in an office with Dr. Tami Michele. A friend of mine had delivered with Dr. Michele and said she was amazing as well. So, if your friend has complications last minute, Dr. Michele has been highly recommended! I also used a doula for my labor, and she is very well worth the small fee that she charges. The added labor support (of someone who is calm-unlike my well meaning husband) was much appreciated. But the thing that I liked the most about my doula was the fact that I called her after my son was born for questions or concerns. He is 10 months old and she still calls us periodically to see how he's doing and if I have any concerns. Her name is Sally Riley and her phone number is ###-###-####. Sorry this message was so long, but I had such a wonderful experience with both my midwife and doula that I just love telling people about it!

Good luck with your search!

Sheila Roth and Kim Anderson at Midwest Midwifery are excellent. They deliver at Research Med Center. Their website is www.kcmidwife.com

Sheila delivered my son in 2005. He was six weeks early and she handled our unexpectedly early delivery with ease. Even though the circumstances of the delivery meant that my birth plan was thrown out the window...she did her best to respect what I had originally hoped for and even though we were in an emergency situation, she kept me informed every step of the way about all the changes that had to be made to ensure my son's safety.

An added bonus is that since they deliver at Research Med Center, you are at a hospital with an excellent NICU. Something I never imagined I'd need...until my son was there.

I can't say enough great things about them. The pre-natal and in hospital care I received was outstanding.

J.,

I love my midwife, Kara Winkler, at the Women's Health Care Group. http://www.whcg.org/women/ ###-###-####

They have 5 midwives and 5+ doctors in their practice. The office is in one of the medical buildings at Overland Park Regional (435 and Quivera) and they deliver at Shawnee Mission Medical as well as OP Regional. We are having baby #3 in July and Kara will deliver him. We have used women's health care for all our kids and highly recomend the practice. I have several friends who go there too and I have never heard anything bad. Good luck! M.

I have to recommend Sheila and Kim, too. Kim was wonderful at my son's birth. She stuck around for hours while I labored, doing what I consider "grunt work" just because it needed to be done. She doesn't have a "holier than thou" or too busy attitude. She did her best to keep me from tearing and then stitched me up beautifully. Best of all, she helped me avoid another csection. She was GREAT.
