My husband has finally agreed to taking some time off from work and we are planning to take our 3 girls to Sea World. We haven't been on vacation since 2003 so this is a good start for us. I was wondering what are good hotels to stay at in San Antonio? Where to buy tickets that aren't so expensive?
Thank you!

So What Happened?

We had a great vacation except for the tropical storm that hit San Antonio on Thursday but the Radisson was great. They set up a movie theatre in a conference room and showed movies all day for the kids. Which my girls had fun doing. We got a great Sea World/Hotel package through them. My girls enjoyed doing the smores night. My husband and I ate the smores the girls just liked roasting the marshmallows boy did our stomachs ache after that.
Thank you all for the great advice. We had a fun 1st family vacation!

We just went to SA for July 4th and stayed in the Westin La Cantara resort. It was perfect! They had a great adult only pool and a wonderful family pool. The food was good. It is about 20-30 mins from sea World.

I found a coupon for $8 off here before we left. It was one of tehcoupon flyers that comesin the mail..like a book. They told us you can get $10 off with a Pepsi can...but we never pursued it. My 2 yr old got in free. Check online as well. They have discount tickets and the two day for one ticket specials and all the pricing.

We didn't stay anywhere exciting. It was 10 miute away at a Days Inn. It had two queen beds for the four of us and was clean!! They had just redone the baths with Granite walls,, etc.. It had a microwave, fridge and coffee maker. We were there for two days only and did not spend time in the hotel. It was $80/night.

I had a friend who just stayed in the Hyatt for a week with the kids and they loved it. You can vacation there and never leave the hotel.

Enjoy!

I am unsure about hotels near Sea World but you can get Sea World tickets off the Denton Area Teachers Credit Union website - www.datcu.org - you don't have to have an account there. It is for 2 days for the price of one day. Fiesta Texas is also lots of fun, so is the Riverwalk area. I just took my kids to the Witte Musuem in San Antonio to see a dinosaur exhibit - they also had lots of fun, hand-on activities for the kids. I hope you have a great vacation.

We went to Sea World in April and instead of getting the two day passes, we bought season passes - the initial cost was only $23 more and then we got the coupon books where you get a discount for everything you purchase in the part. For example - 10% off food - free desserts at restaurants - different % off at gift shops. We more than made up for the $23 on our first day in the park. Then, since we had season passes, we returned just last month for a three day stay. It was great because when the park got full, or we got too hot, we just left, because we knew we could pretty much come and go as we pleased without any added expense... You can purchase the passes on the Sea World website (seaworld.com). Have a great time and be sure the set aside at least one afternoon (day if you can) to enjoy the water park. It has something for each age group. Also - make sure that you stick around one evening to see the Shamu night show. It is awesome.
HAVE FUN!!!

Hi E.,

WE just got back from Sea World last weekend and it was a complete whip! My boys are ages 3 and 7 and there were alot of height restrictions on many of the rides. My 3 year old had an ok time. I think I will wait to plan another "kid" vacation when he is 5 and my oldest is 9. My seven year old had a blast especially at Schlitterbaun. I would not reccommend it for the little ones. Overall I thought it was ok. The park at seaworld was so crowded you had to wait in long lines and fight to find seats at the shows. I think it would be best to go during teh week when it is less crowded.

S. Rusher...Good Luck

Hi E.!
If staying really close to Sea World is your priority then I would defintely recommend The Hyatt Hill Country or the Radisson Hill Country. Both are literally down the road from the park and super family friendly. The Hyatt is a little more expensive and offers more of a luxury resort experience. The Radisson offers a great free shuttle back and forth to the park all day, which is great if you need to go back to the hotel for a nap with your youngest and your husband wants to stay at the park with the older two.
Both hotels have great websites and offer summer specials so check them out.
Whatever you choose, have a GREAT time - girlfriend, you deserve it !

PS- re: park tickets. I believe children under 3 are free so atleast one of your little ones is free. If you are a Southwest Airlines frequent flyer, there is a 20 % discount. AAA also offers discount and someone here mentioned a great discount she received online recently, sorry I don't rememberit though but I am sure you can scroll back and find it. Hope that helps!

if you want to save on your stay, we stayed at the Blazing Star Luxury RV Resort Park. Swanky name, nice place. You can find them on the internet. We stayed in a cabin that slept 6. they have one really nice playground area near the pool and another smaller park located in the park. we loved staying there and plan to next year as well. we had dish and a dvd player in the cabin as well as a furnished kitchen. they also offer shuttle rides to Sea World. they are less than 2 mi from the park. we played 2 days at SW and then had a nice place to relax and the kids played outside while we cooked our meals. it was a lot of fun.

good luck

Hyatt Hilll Country it awesome. We stayed at the Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch across the street last year and loved it. They are basically the same hotels, but Wild Oak is a time share property. We loved it so much we are taking are 2 year old to Hill Country in Sept. for her birthday. I think they have a special right now that if you book two nights you get one free, but you must travel after August. Good luck and I hope you and family have a great time.

Another vote for the Hyatt Hill Country!!

We loved our stay there. They always had a lot going on for the kids. When we went, it was very rainy. They really tried to help by having additional activities for kids indoors. There is a General Store downstairs that has the "old fashioned" candy. There were smores and ice cream. There are spa treatments for girls too. Although yours may be a little young, they do nails and hair. There is a great spa there for grown-ups too. It is about 5 minutes to Sea World. The lazy river that flows into the pool is great.

We went for awhile in the morning, took a break, swam at the Hyatt, and then would go back to Sea World. That helps with the little ones (mine were 5 and 3).

Good luck and enjoy!!

We recently stayed at the Hyatt Hill Country. It might seem expensive, but they have a lot for children. The river you can float on with tubes is a lot of fun plus they have a smores cookout each night and then children movies on a big screen on the grassy area later at night. You just bring you a blanket and they have popcorn to buy.

If you aren't into spending that much on a room, go to the website of tripadvisor.com, type in San Antonio Sea World and travelers will give you comments on the places to stay there.
I have found I can really count on their responses.
