Good Foods for 1 Year Old.

My daughter is one year old and she has about 4 teeth. She eats pretty well, but she's picky about some things. I'm wanting to introduce more solid foods and move away from jar food. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on healthy foods that I could try giving her that are really quick and easy that she'll enjoy, but are still pretty healthy. If she finds something she likes she eats A LOT of it, so it's hard to always have enough of something on hand for her. If any one has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

So What Happened?

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your responses. I got a lot of really good ideas from everyone. We tried spaghetti last night, and even though she made the biggest mess of her life, she ate it all and loved it. We also took some really cute messy pics of her covered in sauce and noodles! I went to the grocercy store last night and picked up some things from the ideas you all gave. So far she's eating really well. Thanks again!

I had the same problem with my daughter. I started mixing food a little at a time along with the jar food. now she eats a lot of veggies, meats, and fries. I try to get her to eat healthy food at every meal but sometimes it is hard. The best thing I can recommend is slowly introducing healthy foods into her meals.

Each child is different. One of the things to remember when feeding a child, is the porpotion. Small bites and no forcing. Sometimes just putting a small piece on a plate and tell them not to eat it. It's for me. A child mental wants to be like mom or dad. Most parents load their child's plate up and it looks like a mountain. Don't make commends about the food good or bad. Let them discover for themself. You may be surprised what they will learn to eat that is good for them.

HI!My little boy likes all the snacky things like biter biscuits and Kix, but that isn't healthy for a whole meal. Really almost anything we eat, I shred or cut into small pieces. I just make sure there isn't a lot of suace or spices. Don't worry about things being plain tasting. I think it is better to get them to eat food "plain" and then later introduce sauce and dips. Anyway, I give him lunchmeat (everything small of course), he loves ham the best, chicken noodle soup (you will have to help with that), grilled cheese sammies (only one piece of bread with cheese, then cut in small pieces), bananas, cantalope and other melon chunks, I buy frozen mixed veggies and cook them till they are soft. Buy the ones that have small things like peas and carrot chunks. He likes ground beef and chicken shreds. Try cottage cheese and shredded cheese. He LOVES mashed potatoes and refried beans, but beware, when they eat those by them selves with their hands, it makes the biggest messiest mess, but he loves them. Hope that helps a litlle. I have a hard time because I want to give him a variety so he won't get bored and I run out of ides! Good Luck!

My 10 month old eats every thing we eat at the table, just mushed up or cut into tiny pieces. All three of my kids have eaten regular table food starting at that age. They especially love any kind of noodle and veggies(cooked until really soft) with ranch to dip. My 10 month old also loves yogurt and cheerios for snacks (I always have a baggie of cheerios in my purse). She also has a precious 4 tooth smile! Lots of luck.

Torillas cut up, baby carrots and most veggies (squash, corn, cauliflower)cooked mixed with a little butter and brown sugar, sweet potatoes and regular potatoes, yogut with strawberrries or other fruit, toast with jelly. Thats all I got. My children are picky eaters. My 8 yr won't eat any meat. All he eats is carrot, cheese, and apples apples. His doctor isn't worried b/c he is so tall.
Have fun watching your baby eat now.

Believe it or not, but a lot of 1 year olds like asparagus. Just steam it w/some butter. It's easy to hold and eat, and very healthy!!! Good luck!

When my girls were that age, I started by just letting them try things off my plate. Before I headed to the dinner table, I would cut up some of my food into small bite-sized pieces and then allowed them to pick at will. My youngest is a picky eater and the more you try to GIVE it to her, the more she fights you (she's almost 12 now!), but when I let her pick what she wants to try we have a much higher success rate. Babies learn a lot by mimic. If you're enjoying the food on your plate, they'll naturally want to check it out. Good luck!

My son is one and also only has 4 teeth, he eats anything we eat, he has not been on baby food for a couple of months. One thing that I keep on hand is the steam fresh bags, frozen veggies you just cook in the micro, they are great and soft, so a good quick and easy thing to keep on hand.
Also, cereal bars, my son LOVES cereal bars.
You might try some of the frozen veggie bags and tyson chicken patties cooked in the oven are pretty good too.
I get him to try everything, there's not much the moose doesn't like!

Hi, When my daughter was 1 (she's now 2) she dropped from the 5th% in weight to negative 3%. Getting her to eat was a chore so making sure each bite was nutritious was really important. My sister-in-law is a nutritionist and told me that if I could get her to eat the following items she'd be just fine nutritionally until she got a better appetite or was less picky about trying new things.

Bannana (cut up into discs and then thirds)
Blueberries (smash or cut into two at first so she doesn't choke)
Avacado (bit sized chunks)
Sweet potato (I just kept up with the jars on this one)
Beans (I used organic canned pinto beans and she LOVED them)
Dairy such as cottage cheese, shredded cheese or yogert

I started on meat too but not a ton at first. Ground beef was good finger food and I just gave that and hot dogs to her cold. She didn't care about it being warm. That was my hang up. I just try to remember that her tummy is the size of her fist and not to try to expect too much in one sitting.

BTW sorry for the spelling errors. Haven't found spell check yet hahaha

I have an 18-mo. old daughter who used to eat anything you gave her, but is more picky now. I just try giving her as much variety as possible. A couple months ago, she couldn't get enough broccoli! For breakfast, there's the standby of Cheerios, and I've given her scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, waffles, English muffins, bagels w/cream cheese or peanut butter, mandarin oranges, canned pears, bananas, oatmeal, watermelon, applesauce--and a lot of the fruit options I'll give her for snacks, too. For lunch, she loves the little Gerber Graduates soups that she can feed herself, but I also just give her regular canned soup cause it's cheaper. But for lunch/dinner--sandwiches, quesadillas, hummus w/pita bread, pieces of lunchmeat/cheese, pasta w/spaghetti sauce, chicken, chicken nuggets, rice, mashed potatoes/au gratin, mac & cheese, broccoli, peas, corn, beets, carrots, zucchini (all cooked), fish sticks, tater tots...Guess I could go on forever! Other snacks that I give her are Goldfish crackers, animal crackers, Gerber Graduates freeze-dried snacks like apples and sweet corn. Oh and personally I try to limit her sugar intake somewhat, so if she gets juice, it's watered down, but otherwise water and whole milk. Let me know if you need any more ideas! ;) Good luck! Oh I almost forgot, try guacamole, too--my daughter will eat only guacamole and pinto beans when we go out for Mexican food!

you should try some of the gerber toddler foods, they are really healthy and perfect for babies with just a few teeth =) also, try things like pasta, grapes (cut up, they can be a choking hazard if left whole), bananas, or pretty much any other soft fruit. also, applesauce is a good in-between food, especially the mott's healthy harvest ones, they come in several different flavors and no sugar added. also, remember that even with only a few teeth, babies can eat things like casseroles, spaghetti, meatloaf, cooked veges, etc. as long as it's cut up really small. my 15 mo. old has eaten table foods for several months now and she's just now getting her molars. babies can mash food pretty well with their gums =) just be creative and try new foods every day until you find her favorites!
