I'd love to know if you've had a cesarean here in Albuquerque and recommend the obstetrician. My husband and I are planning to have a baby next year and are feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the decisions that need to be made! Thanks so much for your recommendations! :)

Dr Louisa Chavez at Women's Hospital on Montgomery. ###-###-####. She delivered both of our children via c-section.

I had two boys in Albuquerque, both by C-section. The first was an emergency (he was sunny side up and couldn't get through the birth canal). My OB was Dr. Christina Chang, however she was not on duty that night and Dr. Hernandez (in the same office) performed the C-section. I was hurting for nearly 3 months and was left with a big lumpy raised scar.

For my second pregnancy I switched to Women's Specialists of NM. My OB was Dr. Analisa Villareal. Oh, what a difference! She has much better bedside manner. The C-Section went much better. I was only hurting for a couple of DAYS and the scar is nearly invisible!

You might be interested in some of the early pregnancy classes and other resources at http://www.inspiredabq.com. Especially if this is your first preganancy. There is often an Early Pregnancy Q&A there. If you are early along, there's no need to rush to decide anything. You can meet with several OBs and make your decision.

My first baby was C-section, but that was in Ohio. My second and third babies were here in ABQ and I successfully delivered VBAC with both. So I can't speak for her c-section skills, but I desperately wanted VBAC and Dr. Valeria Contreras was FANTASTIC. She did everything she could to make it happen, while still monitoring my health and being honest when she had concerns. She has a fantastic bedside manner. I LOVED her during the visits throughout pregnancy. She listens to your concerns, is friendly and professional, takes her time with you. I just love her. I'm half considering scheduling our next (and likely last) baby just so I know that I can deliver with her before we leave ABQ! ;) So anyway, I'm just conjecturing that if she was THIS good for my deliveries (which were super easy to recover from) then she's probably great at C-section, too.
