Giving My Husband a Good Birthday

I am feeling like an incredibly horrible wife at the moment. I have been so caught up with other problems that I almost forgot my husbands birthday tomorrow! I have no idea how to make it a good birthday for him. He has always been great at making my birthday and mother's day special for me, and I am out of time and don't know what to do! We are really short on money right now, so that really limits what we can do. I have been able to ensure some alone time; my oldest 2 kids will be with their dad, and my mom will have our daughter. I'd like to make him a nice dinner, but I am so picky that I don't know what to make. He loves Italian, and he loves lamb chops, but I don't like either and have never made either before. If anyone has any ideas, or any meal ideas that I could make for him, I would appreciate it SO much. I also have to rush to get my house cleaned. It is hard because my kids didn't have school today, and I am taking care of my husband's co-worker's kids also. They are all good kids, I'm just not able to get much done around the house right now.

What can I do next?

I always ask the butcher what the best cut is and how to cook it. Last time they recommended the most amazing marinade and it came out perfect.

Yeah..definately cook him dinner.

Have the house semi dark with candles all over the place, especially the table. Wear something nice...I don't know about your husband...but wear something that will make him want to skip dinner! Have rose petals leading from the door to the table. If he doesn't necessarily care for the house to be spotless then don't worry about it. Focus on the things that will mean the most to him...dinner and dessert.

Lasagna is really not that difficult. If you go to the store and buy the box of lasagna noodles, the recipe is right there on the back. Very simple. While it is in the oven baking you can clean up the house.

Good luck!

Do you like shellfish? Crab, mussells, clams, corn on cob, new potatoes in a roaster pan add chicken broth, garlic, bay leaf, butter...and a great bottle of wine or a ice cold beer.

If you like Italian....Yandolino is easy to make and it is delicious...you can not go wrong with this one!

Would he like chicken parmigiana? It's pretty easy and yummy!
Ingredients :

4 Boneless skinless chicken breasts
2 Eggs, beaten
1 cup Dry Italian style bread crumbs
1/4 cup Olive oil
1 jar (15 oz.) meat flavored spaghetti sauce
1/2 cup Grated parmesan cheese
1 cup Grated mozzarella cheese

Method :
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Dip chicken in egg, then bread crumbs, coating well. In skillet, heat olive oil. Cook chicken until done and well browned on both sides. Pour spaghetti sauce into 11 x 7 baking dish. Place chicken on sauce and top with both cheeses. Bake 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and lightly browned.

I like to serve it with some Italian bread and dipping oil. I make my dipping oil with olive oil, fresh minced garlic, Italian spice, salt and pepper to taste.

My husband always appreciates a simple box cake and icing from the grocery store. Super easy to make, but oh so delicious. Try something different like German Chocolate Cake, with the coconut icing.

Sounds like you have good ideas for dinner! Go withthe italian stuff, easy to do! As for a gift, I love it when I get the homemade coupon books from my kids! Make him one only with stuff he likes! Or go for the naughty version of the coupon book, the stuff he really likes! And let him use em all up on his birthday! Wear something sexy or nothing at all! Serve him dinner in bed...he won't be able to take his eyes off of you and wont be able to wait til desert!! Just a few ideas...hope I havent offended anyone! Sounds like you have both been busy and could use some adult time! Have fun!

My husband has already requested his bday dinner to be at Dave & Busters (out at The Legends near the Speedway and Great Wolf Lodge)--and his bday isn't even until the end of March! It's a fun place to eat and play tons of video/arcade games, geared a little towards the older crowd (definitely not Chuck E Cheese!) We went there for my bday last year and we had a blast. They have a special lunch deal where you can "Eat and Play" for $10.99, you get to choose from ten or so different lunches and you also get 10 bucks worth of game credits.

Time for romance and hubby having your undivided (and uninterrupted) attention is always the best gift. Skip the formal meal and do a picnic on the living room floor. Candles, music, blanket on the floor, assorted cheeses, meats, crackers, fruits, and chocolates (or his favorite dessert)...something easy for you to put together and he won't care about the messy house (as long as he's not sitting on a toy!) because he's getting the most precious gift around - your time.
