Giving Birth at EIRMC in Idaho Falls, ID

I am curious about what it is like to give birth at EIRMC in Idaho Falls, ID. My first baby was born in Florida with a wonderful midwife, my husband was working there for that summer. I will be having my upcoming baby at EIRMC and I am unsure what to plan and prepare for. I would like some advice or input from other mom's who have delivered there. What did you like/dislike? How were your treated? Was your experience a good one or a bad one? What things should I take, what should I leave home? What things were given to you for the new baby (diapers, wipes, pacifiers, a hat, diaper bag, formula samples, etc...) Was the staff supportive of breastfeeding? Does the baby stay in the room the whole time with you? Do you labor, deliver and recover in the same room? Does daddy get a cot or something to sleep on?

Answers to these questions and another another positive or negative feedback will be appreciated! Thanks!

I had my little boy @ EIRMC about 6 yrs. ago. He was a planned C-section, so didn't experience the "regular" labor/delivery aspect. My nurse was good about bringing me my pain pills and answering my questions! :) The nursery was very accommodating - each night they asked if he was staying w/ me or them - including a "change my mind in the middle of the night" option. We kept him w/ me the whole time, hubby or I accompanied him to the nursery during "baby round-up" (weight check, shot, hearing check, etc) - seems like that was a morning & evening thing. They were also in to check on him a few times during the day. I felt supported w/ breast-feeding. (no problems, so didn't meet the lac. consultant) My hubby slept @ home - to be w/ big sis.... seems like the visitor chair was comfy during the day....
I brought my own fleece blanket, onesies & sleepers (but they also had all those) - they had diapers, wipes, etc on the nursery cart. We did have our blanket get mixed in with their's, but they were very good about finding it for me! Didn't use a paci, so don't remember...
Also got a diaper bag w/ formula & info, etc. - 1 from hospital, 1 from pediatrician.
My experience there was positive. I'd recommend touring the facility & be sure to ask any questions you have while you're there and get a contact name/number you can call back - I always have more questions the next day!
Hope this helps & good luck!

A.- I had one baby at EIRMC and one at Mountain View. I had different experiences at both, but they were both good in their own way. In my opinion, the staff at EIRMC was much more attentive to me..My husband stayed in my room (they have nice recliners, I had a c-section, but I think they do keep vaginal birth in the same room. I chose to have my baby in the nursery the first night(I was pretty out of it after the c-section, but they brought her to me for feedings.

The only issue I had was the first night, I was changing her and I noticed she was bruised pretty bad on her bum...I called the desk and asked them about it and I really felt like they blew me off..she said probably from the birth canal and I explained it was a c-section she said "hum? I don't know...and left it at that. Turns out she had mongolian spots (should have been documented)

Mountain veiw was nice, but they are a self serve meds hospital..after my c-section they brought me a bag full of drugs and instructions...well that time I was really out of it and did not remember that they had brought me these drugs for comfort...needless to say I was in pain!

Please let me know if you need more information! You can get tours at both hospitals before your birth... at EIRMC ask for Trish Anderson- she's great!

Good luck! H.

I had both my kids there and had no serious issues, they support whatever you want for bfing or formula, there is sometimes an extra bed for dad, sometimes is a comfy lazyboy. Its been almost 6 years for me, but I got a nice diaper bag just full of stuff, and a new package of huggies newborn diapers. baby can stay with you all the time besides the bath and circ(if a boy)and a few shots they get. Or if you need sleep they can keep the baby most the time and bring it just for you to feed it. I had a fever after my first for a bit over 24 hours so they had the baby most the time.

they can be a bit weird about showers. I never had an issue, but two of my friends did. Not sure what it was all about. My friend just had a baby at Mountain View last month. It was very nice. Your dr only deals with eirmc? Most of them here will go to both. Also eirmc was unable to give my friend her epi two years ago, but this time the dr at mt view did(she has double scoliosis) and both my epi's only worked on one side. the dr at mt view said there was no excuse for that. The dr's just were not very good.

Hope that helps.

A., I have had 2 babies here in IF. One delivered at Mt. View, one delivered at EIRMC in--in that order. I liked both places for different reasons. Since you asked about EIRMC I will tell you my experience. I LOVED the nursing staff-especially Sue and Susie. I really like Trish Andersen! The hospital was very "procedural" which I really liked. They were supportive of breastfeeding or bottle feeding. They ALWAYS checked wrist bands and numbers to match my baby with me. They did give me lots of baby supplies and a bag (diapers, wipes, meds). I especially liked that they have a full NICU there (I do know that Mt. View's NICU has gotten better. It wasn't bad when we were in the NICU with our first-just small). My husband did have a chair that folded out into a bed. They did let me keep the baby in my room over night if I chose too....They were quick to give meds or answer questions or call buttons when I needed them to.

Negatives...no, I did not labor, deliver, and recover in the same room HOWEVER, they kept me in the labor/delivery room for a number of hours before moving me to recovery. The hospital is an "older" style and rooms are not as big and comfortable.

I would definately deliver again at EIRMC. GOOD LUCK with your decision and the rest of your pregnancy!
