Girlfriends Visiting Dallas

We recently moved to Dallas. My girlfriends are going to visit me for a weekend in November. The theme for the weekend is RELAX! What are some good places to eat around here? We enjoy eclectic, ethnic, authentic cuisine. What are some of the "happening" night spots around Dallas? We are all in our early 30s --- married with kids...so bar-hopping is not too appealing. Where is great shopping to do around here? Are there any cool places to visit? I am thinking a trip to the Arboretum would be fun. Thanks for your ideas.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you for all the responses. This is what we ended up doing:
Trip to Sam Moon -- they loved it.
Ate at Sushi Sake in Richardson(awesome sushi...best I have ever eaten), Chaat cafe (great tandoori wraps) and Clay Pit (Indian buffet)
Shopping at North park mall, Ikea

A relaxing Girlfriends weekend sounds SO much fun!!!!
When we get together we like to have lunch or dinner at Love and War in Texas (fabulous food and great Texas atmosphere) http://www.loveandwarintexas.com/
There is a really nice tearoom, on the main street in Plano. The Chicken Salad is YUMMY! http://www.intomygarden.com/ Lots of really cool lil shops there too.
If you like Antiques, I enjoy shopping at Antiqueland. Its located on the service road, across the street from Collin Creek Mall. Just North of Plano Parkway. (next door to Hooters)
Anytime my girlfriends visit they want to go to Sam Moon and load up on jewelry...there are 2 locations, Frisco and Dallas.

Antares restaurant at Reunion Tower. If you do not want to pay for a pretty expensive dinner, there's also a bar upstairs. Go for dinner a bit before sun-set and you'll be able to see the town by daylight and the skyscrapers light up. The restaurant rotates, so you get the feeling of being in the middle of downtown / skyscrapers.

FUN! I am not sure where in Dallas you live, but, Uptown is fun. You can shop at the West Village and there are a couple of good mexican restaurants in the shopping center - Taco Diner(which is more authentic Mexico City type food) and MiCocina (which is Tex-Mex) Both have patios (if the weather is good) and are places to "be seen." Also, if you are looking for high end shopping, Highland Park Village offers some good choices. North Park Mall is by far my favorite mall (75 & Northwest Hwy) And, there are several restaurants in the mall as well. Some other excellent choices for dinner would be: LOCAL, which is in Deep Ellum; Abacus (Uptown), Nobu (Uptown/Downtown); Daniel Osteria (Oaklawn); Hibiscus (Knox/Henderson) this is a good place, too. We have seen several local "celebrities" here (Dallas Stars players) Another good patio, would be Primo's in Uptown. There are so many good restaurants in Dallas - you can easily avoid chains! If you are looking for a place just to hang out after dinner, the bar in Hotel ZaZa is an excellent choice - again, "see and be seen." And, it is more 30-40 year olds - not all 20 year old. Hope this gives you some ideas! Have Fun!

My girlfriends and I like Spike at Mockingbird Station (not too pricey, fantastic drinks) but make sure you make reservations as it is small. Also, you could try La Duni. They have great food, drinks, and amazing deserts. There are two locations: one on Oak Lawn and the other on McKinney Ave. The McKinney Avenue one might be better for going out for drinks or dancing after (you could walk to many different places).

Another idea would be a wine bar like Mercy in Addison. There are a few bars you could walk to in that area too.

Good luck and have fun!

A girl's weekend sounds fantastic!

Depending on where they're from, they may enjoy going to Ikea. I live here, and I'm still amazed at how much STUFF they have! And it's all pretty interesting.

You can go to see an artsy film at the Angelica or Magnolia.
You can take a tour of the Myerson Symphony Center if they're into cultural things. Myerson used to have free tours on Saturday afternoons. I'm sure you can find details on their website.

You can go to Six Flags for holiday in the park if you girls are adventure seekers.

I took my mom, mother-in-law (from Oklahoma), and cousin for tea at the Crescent Hotel. They loved it!! It's something different and very girl-ish and the room is beautiful (as is the hotel)! www.ladyprimrose.com

I hear The W Hotel has great prices for pampering like massages and stuff.

If you like shopping, you really, really must go to Southlake Town Square. ( www.southlaketownsquare.com ) It's about a 40 minute drive from Dallas if you take 114 West. The shopping is incredible. It's a HUGE area with pretty much everything... clothes, shoes, restaurants, movie theatre, etc. And I highly recommend Brio. It's in the Square, but call at least a day ahead to make reservations, as it's a pretty hot spot for Southlake. The wait is always long if you get there past 6. There's also a cheesecake factory there if that's your thing.

I would suggest taking them to Firewheel Town Center in Garland. It is so nice especially if the weather is nice. Plus, if you want Italian I would definately take them to Campisi's on Mockingbird Lane. The Nasher Sculpture Museum sometimes has really fun events in the evenings. Plus, you can't forget the State Fair!

Have a great weekend! Being a mom in her 30's I definately know how much a weekend like this is needed!!!!

For truely authentic Mexican without any pomp, my hubby and I go to Cuquitas on Knox/Henderson, about 2 minutes just southeast of 75. This is a real Mexican restaurant where the servers assume you speak Spanish, but they will take orders in English if needed. The corn tortillas are heavenly...what am I saying, everything they make is heavenly!

Anyway, my hubby and I moved back to Dallas a year ago and all of our good friends are out of state as well. It can be very lonely, so if you are interested in meeting up sometime for a couples night, shoot me an email. I am in my 30's and my DH is in his mid 40's, and our daughter is 6 months old.

HI Dee! My fiance owns a bar/restaurant in uptown Dallas with a very nice patio. If you would like to go with your friends, I can see that my fiance charges you guys only half price. :) Its a little, trendy place that serves tapas and frozen drinks. Also, the Crescent Hotel has a WONDERFUL spa and a delicious restaurant called Nobu. Its very chic and so "dallas". So is Hibiscus off Knox/Henderson. :)
The Hotel Zaza is a really cool place to take friends. The hotel bar is really cool and there are sometimes celebrity spottings. For shopping, I'd take them to West Village(75 and blackburn). They just opened up a new Mi Cocina that is so great for lunch and a margarita in between shopping. The shopping is mostly boutique shops which I prefer over chain stores. Northpark Mall has also added a bunch of new stores and I like it better than the Galleria. What else? Oh,you guys MUST do brunch at either La Duni or Breadwinners. Dallas is a flashy city...our own little NYC of Texas. Show it off, girl! :)
