i have two boys and would love to have a girl! an old name i really think is nice is Amelia. you really dont hear it that much which is a good thing. good luck!

You can go to the social security admin to look up names - I think someone else recommended this too and provided the link. I did that with my first daughter, Natalie. We named our second daughter Amelia, which everyone told me would be too old fashioned but we love the name.

I named my second daughter Audrey Rose. My oldest is Caroline Grace. Like some other posters, I also like Charlotte and Amelia. Finally, my grandmother's name was Ilah, which is a good alternative spelling for the name Isla, which I have noticed is gaining some popularity today (but a lot of people will mispronounce it because of the spelling).

I read all of the replies, but I didn't see the name I love that I wanted to name my daughter, but dad didn't like it. Hannah it was my great grandmothers name. We did end up naming our daughter Juliana after my other great grandmother. Good luck!!!

You probably have a ton of choices now but here are a few more. First Suzanne is a great first name, my sister is Suzanne Marie (no one calls her Sue). I also like the sound of a 3 syllable first name with Suzanne as the middle name. I also like names with easy nicknames.

We have an 8 month old daughter and we named her Adilynn Belle, it's a name that was popular in the 50's era.

Do you know your family history? You might want to choose a name from the family tree. My oldest daughter is Anastasia and she's fifth generation with that name in our family -- it switches each generation from first to middle name, through my mother's side of the family. We've had Stasia, Annie, Ana, derived from that name and each Anastasia seems to be happy she has the name. I also have a Marianne and Laura.

You could go with something that reflects your cultural heritage, or just something that sounds good. Be aware there are plenty of Lily (Lillie, Lilly) girls around now and tons of Emilys, Ashleys and Emmas. One cousin of mine named her daughters Lydia and Adeline -- nice old fashioned names. You don't hear Adeline very much these days either. In the 50's there were plenty of Patricias and Catherines plus the inevitable Mary xxx - fit Jane in or Ann, Pat, Claire, whatever other name you wanted to join to Mary. I only know of one Patricia in many recent years. Same with Susan. So you might want to consider those names.

Ask any elementary school or preschool teacher you know and they will tell you what the hot names are so you can try to avoid using those names.

There's always my name -- Rosemarie. Not many of us around either!

This is a great thread! I have always loved Olivia as a beautiful, old-fashioned name, but now it seems to be THE name of choice for everyone in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Another beautiful one is Guinevere(there are variations of the spelling), as in the King Arthur stories. Then she can be Gwen for short.

I always liked my grandmothers name - Leda Elise.

We named our daughter Penelope Jane; people always comment on how cute it is. And it suits her! I love old-fashioned names, too. My son is Jack Lawrence, but if he had been a girl he would have been Josephine Jane. (Jane was my late mother in law.)

I also love Catherine (shortened to Catie), and Willa.

I love Evelyn, Sarah, Rosalyn, Eireen (Irish spelling of Irene), Noreen, Eileen.

Sara or Sarah is a great name. We names our daughter Sara Jayne 15 years ago because it was an old fashioned name.

Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your child. My husband and I always had a hard time picking names for our children,but when we finally and shockingly had a girl after three boys we named her Rebecca. It's an old fashion name but we loved it. All the best with your new little one.
