Gingivitis

Does anyone know how to reverse gingivitis? Gum disease runs in my family and I'm noticing symptons of gingivitis. I brush three times a day, and floss once a day. My gums on the left side of my mouth look irritated. Now I have a horrible taste in mouth that I can't get rid of, and now my stomach is very upset. I'm not sure if the two are related but I really do not feel good at all.
I know I need to see a dentist, but since it is Friday night I can't. Not only that I will have to wait until my next pay day to see one. Any ideas until I can get to a dentist?

What can I do next?

There is a non-acidic form of vitamin c called calcium ascorbate. Buy it as a powder and spread 1/2 teaspoon on gum surfaces. Hold it for ten minutes, then rinse. Do this daily. Also in conjunction with that you could try a comfrey root tea. You can either use it as a mouthwash, or drink a cup every day or two.

I love Listerine toothpaste AND mouthwash. Their formula is patented, so the store brands (although cheaper) just wont be the same. Gum disease runs in my family too and no other toothpaste or mouthwash has been able to help. So now I am loyal to Listerine. Good Luck!

I have gum disease and couldn't go to a dentist for years, no insurance and not enough money. I am now going to a family friend who is luckily giving me a discount. I lost 3 of my front bottom teeth because of this, and the rest of my teeth are in danger. One thing I learned from the hygenist is to brush at a 45* degree angle and make sure I get my gums. I also got a little brush that looks like a tiny bottle brush, called a Between. It gets into the spot between the teeth at the gum line. Brushing and flossing are the best way to avoid any further complications. But also use Listerine. Brush and floss at least 2x a day.
The dentist told me that because my gum disease is so advanced I will need to come in every 3 months for a cleaning.
Walgreens and Walmart carry the Beweens -- also use the reach flossers that look like a dental tool (more comfortable).
Good luck I hope you don't lose teeth also. You cannot reverse gum disease from now on it's maintaince to prevent any further damage. If it advances the infection will cause you to lose bone and that means tooth loss.

Listerine makes toothpaste?! Who knew! I'll have to check that out! Anyway, I have gum disease as well and it sucks. I also alternate in between the dentist and the periodontist every three months. I'm not in danger of loosing teeth but I will have to have a gum grafting surgery at some point. So...that being said, I feel you! :)

I think until you get to the dentist flossing, brushing, etc. is your best bet. Do you have a Sonicare? Is this your first time with these symptoms or have you already been evaluated?

Perhaps you might just need a deep cleaning called a descaling or something equally scary sounding, but it's not as bad as it seems. As long as you see your dentist regulary I'm sure you won't have major complications.

Talia has good advice. You can also try rinsing regularly with organic, cold pressed, naturally age apple cider vinegar mixed with a little warm water, it helps to whiten the teeth and kills bacteria. It's good and also a cheaper way to go than other products. Also pure mint oil rubbed on the gums helps a lot too. There is also a product called ISAB concentrate, a herbal gum treatment, you can get through Home Health, used regularly it does wonders.
More than likely the dentist will do a certain type of cleaning/treatment for this but it's very expensive. My DIL said it would cost her 50 dollars a tooth. And there are no guarantees. Take sugar out of your diet and take plenty of vitamin C. The Algers brand is really good.
The best to you with it.
