My sister-in-law is in labor with her third baby today... I want to get her and the baby something really cool and different... but seem stumped on this one. Any great ideas!?!?!

What can I do next?

How about having a photographer to come and take pics...or give her the gift of a weekend that you come and spend the night to tend to the baby in the middle of the night and do laundry and stuff.

I kind of like to get personalized gifts for third and up babies. It seems like so much of what they have is hand-me-downs... something decorative for the room or a blanket, etc.. with their name on it. There are a bunch of websites... just google "personalized baby gifts".

The best gifts to give are something that she can use. Something she might not already have for baby. Like a co-sleeper or maybe a good bottle. I didn't know about this until my now 10 month old was about 5 months but I came across a baby bottle called a paci feeder. Here is the link in case ur interested.http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&sat...= It has done wonders for me not having to hold and feed the baby all the time. She prob won't need it until the baby is a few months old but I have gotten tons of oo's and ahh's from other mothers asking me where I got it. I tied a string on the both sides of the nipple where the holes are so that I could just put it around his head without it falling out.

hi H.,
My favorite thing, cannot do without, is my sling. I get compliments about it everywhere I go (along with looks from other moms that say "I wish I had one of those"..www.babyslings.com has a large assortment and colors. I love my Over The Shoulder Baby Holder. While it's a little bulkier than some, the padding and ease to put on is well worth it. My son has been in his from day 1, and 18 months later, I still Always know where it is, and can't do without. Helps with bonding too!

oh, and AFTER I wrote this, I see someone else feels the same:-) hey Sara!

The absolute best thing that I have for my baby is a sling. When my baby was just weeks old it would calm and soothe her when nothing else would, as it held her close to me and had a swaddling effect. Plus we could walk around outside which she enjoyed very much. It is so versatile that I STILL use it every day and she is almost 10 months old! Now it allows me to hold her on my hip without using my hands. For more information or to order go to www.babyslings.com, it's the over the shoulder baby holder. One side note is, if the Mom doesn't watch the video that comes with the sling, she will have a hard time getting it right. Congratulations!

ps If she's nursing, she can nurse in the sling too!

I think those digital photo frames are really neat. Kind of expensive but if you have a family member or two to go in with you that would probably work out well. She could add photos of the two kids she already has and then add some of the new baby as he/she grows. Best wishes, C.

H.... some add'l info... just got an email about a Buy.com special sale on the LCD digital photo frames that I mentioned... they are having a sale on all the ones they have... very good prices. Thanks

After my 3rd child I know I would of loved something personal just for me like a pedicure and a coupon for another mom to watch my kids for a few hours while I take sometime for myself. Well, these are just something I would of loved to get and I do like the suggested idea of a peronalized item for the new baby because of all the hand me downs that is very nice. Maybe something for the whole family but really benifits mom like someone making dinner and droping it off. I know what ever it is that you choose she will like very much good luck.

My new favorite thing is the swaddler wrap. If she doesn't have one already, get it! It was the ONLY way we slept in the first few months (Baby boy born on Feb 3). He would kick off the blankets we swaddled him in, and now there is this new thing that has velcro, and he could not get out of it! He'd go right to sleep, and stay asleep! Boppy makes it, and so does Kiddapotomus. You can find both at Target.

Gifts that I have gotten 2nd time moms that went over really well was a basket of baby bowls, sippy cups, and spoons. I also put a bunch of 1st baby food jars in the basket.
