Gift Ideas for Gfirls 1St Bday...
We have been trying to find a couple of great gifts for our little girls first bday and any suggestions would be great. Everything is just so expensive we dont want to waste our money on something she wont like. we are thinking about one of those little 4 wheelers that are battery opperated, or maby a plastic kitchen set, possibly a lil leaps game or the bouncy spin zebra thing????? Her bday is monday!

I got my son the Laugh & Learn house from FP and he still plays with it (2 1/2) and it is always a fave at playgroup. A tunnel to crawl through is fun. You can never go wrong with books. If you want to get something sentimental I heard an idea for a baby shower gift that would work for a birhtday too. Get a cake cutter and server set engraved with her intials for her to use till her wedding day. Good luck, first birthdays are always fun.

I think she is too young for the car. My son got one when he was 2 1/2 and it took him a while to drive it. He LOVES it now though (he is almost 4). My younger son who is 18 months can only ride in it at this point. I would say the kitchen is a great idea! My boys both love to play with their friend's kitchen and the one a church/preschool.

We had the 4 wheeler and my daughter never used it. I have a 21 month old that has a rocking horse and absolutely loves it. She has been riding it since she was one. I was going to buy the zebra also- but someone gave us the horse. Another favorite of hers is a pop up tent- (20.00 at walmart) She loves to hide in it. When my 6 yo was one she got a ball pit and that was her favorite thing. (fun for mom to clean up also) There are so many great toys out there- but at 1, I dont think they spend much time with a specific toy and they are not very picky. Good luck and have fun. Enjoy getting the less expensive toys while you can!

My husband bought our daughter a Dora the Explorer 4 wheeler for her first birthday and she is now 18 months old and still having troubles riding it. I think she would have been better with a ride on toy that she could push with her feet.
My daughter is in love with books and any types of toys that make music.

at one year i think that the bigger toys are too extravagant & they probably wont be able to really play with them for awhile. for my daughters one year we got her a nice doll, several play purses (she love bags & things) & play necklaces, hats, scarves/boas, puzzles & books. my daughter doesnt even play with her kitchen, only the plates & stuff, they have sets of those by themselves. mostly lots of smaller things that she would really play with.

Have you thought about the Little Tykes car that has the handle on the back for you to push her? Plus it was helpful for taking him on walks and on outings. We also got the small 4 wheeler and we found it was a bit hard for him until he was about 2 to 2-1/2. By then he had outgrown it. I think the ball pit idea was a great one. My son also got a toy that came with 4 small colored balls that he pushed through the hole and the ball came out the bottom. That was the one toy that he still loves to this day! Infact all the kids during playdates would fight over that one toy or the car!

We got our daughter a little ride-on toy that you can push. Any of the Fisher Price Little People things are great too.
Plastic kitchen sets are fantastic. Out daughter got one at 17 months as a hand-me-down and still plays with it at 4 1/2. There are little "baby" ones and there are bigger ones for older kids.
The bouncy-spin zebra thing is cool too. Or maybe something a similar size that is a rocker/rocking horse.

Hi J., You've got a lot of great advice! I agree with everyone about not spending too much on the gifts. My best friend had a great idea for my youngest daughters b-day. She loves to take baths so we made her party a bath themed one and she got all kinds of things to play with. Rubber duckies, toys, bath mats & cute towels. It was really fun and she loved everything. Another thing I had done was go to the toys r us website and they have a list of suggested toys based on the age of the child. It pretty helpful as well!
