Any suggestions on what to buy a 12 year old for a birthday? My girls are still little and I have no idea what to get my friend's daughter. Her daughter is into basketball, soccer, visiting museums, and reading. That's about all I know of her. Help!!! Thanks in advance for any.

What can I do next?

Sorry if these are repeats - I didn't have a chance to read the other responses:

gift certificate to the movies or Fandango.com
gift certificate to a mall (she can choose where to spend)
gift certificate for admission(s) to a museum or look into a museum membership (there are some memberships that cover multiple museums)
gift certificate to a book store
gift certificate to a sports store
gift certificate for Amazon.com (she can buy darn near anything!)
and last but not least, plain old CASH in a card - the gift that fits everyone! :)

How about a gift certificate to the Museum shop? She can get a poster or a scarf or something that will be special for her for a long time. Bigger museums have great mini-shops for kids where they can buy super-quality craft projects and books. The Metropolitan Museum in NY and the National Gallery in DC have wonderful online catalogs too.

I bet she'd love a gift certificate to Barnes & Noble or Borders; or buy her some books. She can always exchange them with a gift slip.

maybe a gift card to barnes and noble? I know when my kids got that age, their preferences for gifts were too expensive, so everyone just gave them cash or gift cards and they pooled the money together and purchased the one big gift they wanted.

Kids that age seems to prefer to shop for themselves. Aeropostale seems to be a "hot" clothing store for that age group as is abercrombie and fitch (although a bit more pricey). Obviously there are the bookstores. If she has an iPod iTunes gc is good. And as a last resort good old fashioned cash. I have never seen dead presidents offend.

If she likes reading then a gift card to barnes and noble or borders books. For the sports a gift card to a sports place like modell's or REI. Gifts cards too Target or Walmart. Most people like those two places. Good luck

Sporting goods store gift card, tickets to her local museum, the movie tickets were a good idea, or just plain CASH!

Get her a "Deuce Brand" watch.
Its great.
Many pro Athletes wear one, and many celebrities.
Good for sports.
It is real useful, waterproof, comes in cute colors, is 'trendy' and hip, and a popular thing now.
Replaceable battery.

Brookstone has it.
Or online at their website.
Or the Deuce Brand website is:
http://www.deucebrand.com/

Brookstone, is the cheapest for it, now.
2 for $30
But Brookstone, now is running out online. They only have the color "purple" left.

E-bay has it too.

My daughter and I have one, we LOVE it.
SO many of my daughter's friends, now want one too.

good luck,
Susan

the B&N gift card is an excellent idea.

You could also do a gift basket of nail stuff. I did this for my niece for Christmas & she loved it!

Depending on what her tastes and what she has ownership of or access to:
iTunes gift card
B & N gift card
gift card to a local movie theater

If she likes to write or journal, she can get a nice journal or a funky pen at B&N, or a couple of new books-whatever interests her. There are usually a few movies out for the kids during the summer. $20 gift card will cover a matinee ticket and popcorn/soda easily in most areas. iTunes cards can be used to purchase songs, albums, apps, and even movies!
