Gift Idea for New Big Sister
I was wondering if anyone had a creative gift idea for my friend's daughter that just became a big sis to a little brother. She's 2 1/2 years old.

Hi K L! I am pregnant with my 2nd child & my daughter will be 22 months when he is born. We have decided that we are going to get her a goody basket filled with DVD's of her favorite TV show, The Wiggles. We're also going to get her a Wiggles pillow and probably some other fun things. My daughter is mesmerized by The Wiggles, so if I ever need for her to calm down so that I can take care of the new baby, I should be able to rely on The Wiggles to make things a litle easier!

How about a book that the big sister can read to her new little brother? I've done this for a friend of mine when she had her 2nd child. I think it could help the older sibling bond to the baby. Then she feels like there's something that's just between her and her baby brother.

i have an almost 6yr old son and a 6 1/2 mo. old daughter, when she wasborn we bought our son the AUTHOR movie'authors' new baby", to help him understand in his terms about having a new baby in the house & that it wasn't replacing him, just adding one more.my husband went to the toy store and bought him some playdoh and color pencils and wrapped it up very nicely and before we took the baby home, when the nurses came in to give of all the gifts from the hospital to take home we gave him his presents so he wouldn't feel left out. good luck & congradulations!

When our second was born, we got our 2 1/2 year old daughter baby stuff. We got her a play mat for her dolls, bed, backpack carrier, and diaper bag. Then she was a "mommy" to her doll and had fun stuff to play with and could feed her doll while Mommy fed her new sister and change her while Mommy changed sissy, etc. It was great!! I got it at Toys R Us. It was a box with everything together (except the diaper bag I bought by itself). Anyway, it turned out to be great and she still loves it and she's 3 1/2 now.

I am not sure if this helps or not, but I know one of the greatest gifts for me and my son when he became a big brother was when people would make "dates" with him. They would come pick him up and go out to lunch, the park, or shopping...anything was special to him because it showed him that people still loved him and it wasn't all about the new baby. My sister was long distance and she would send him cards, etc that told him how much she loved him with a little something in the card...maybe just $5 or $10 and it would mean a lot to him. Of course he was 8yrs old at the time. Anyway, I think it is awesome that you are thinking about the older sister...you are a great friend!!!!

I think BOOKS are ALWAYS a good gift. THERE ARE books out there about becoming a big sister/brother. I don't think it has to be, but they are available.
For a 2 1/2 year old......pop ups (if they are mature enough to handle) and one of my favorites.......THE BIG HUNGRY BEAR AND THE RED RIPE STRAWBERRY. Trust me.....it will be one of her favorites!

She is likely potty training and I would suggest a fun potty training reward system that will also help Mom train her and be fun for big sister!

How about a t-shirt that says "I'm the big sister!"?
