Gift for Preemie?

Hi there - a close friend just had a very premature baby. I was wondering if any other moms out there had preemies and what gifts they found the most useful. he is beautiful and doing well weighs 3 pounds - and still is at the hospital. thank you for your advice.

What can I do next?

Slings! It has been shown that premies develop faster & better when in physical contact with the mom & dad...and a sling would help this happen :) Glad baby and mom are doing well

Hi P.,

My niece was a premie weighing only 2lb 10 oz and I found a store in Fountain Valley that specializes in little ones. It's called Premie Store & more. My sister-in-law said to me later that it was a huge deal to her to go in every morning and change her clothes, kind of a way of bonding. Although their were several health issues, the clothes gave her something to talk to her about; i.e. the flowers or shapes, the colors, how soft. Hope this helps.

I have had three preemies. The best gifts were preemie clothes and diapers. Plus a meal. Hope all goes well.

I myself had a preemie as well and I really needed preemie diapers and sleepers which are sometimes not so easy to find. I suggest trying wal mart or babies r us, for I know they carry preemie clothes which can be difficult to find.

Definitely include some of the Preemie diapers. I have only seen them in the small packages so most people don't buy enough of them.

something as simple as clothes. it was great for us. hard to find. stretchy cottony things were great.

Clothes are really hard to find in that size. If you are good with a sewing machine you might want to make a little bunting -it looks to be very easy. Take a look at it on this blog:

My Son was born about 2 months early he was so small and in the INCU for so long, the best gift is a hug and support to the parents it a tough road ahead and they could really use it. As for material things think small. Premie clothes premie pacifiers everything of that sort is wonderful.

My daughter was born 14 weeks early at 1 lb 12 ounce. She spent 91 days in the NICU. Now she is a very healthy 2 year old. The best gifts that I received was a Merry Maid service and a snugger bugger sling. I used the sling until my daughter was 2.

I had a four pounder... if she is bottle feeding Dr. Brown's are a good suggestion, preemies have a tough time with their digestion and these bottles are specially made for reducing air bubbles.

Also, they do make preemie clothes, she'll need Onesies and you can try Carter's brand. They are sometimes called "Just Born" or Preemie size.

The last suggestion is a Snuzzler Complete Head And Body Support by Kiddopotomus or something similar. My son was really small and needed this thing to help fill out the infant car seat for the trip home. She may have the same issue.

The best gift will be your love and support, but I hope the advice helps!
My son is now 22lbs/8mo. So remember they don't stay small for long!
